As advertised
Operates as it should. Attached my bipod to my M1 A1. A very heavy rifle especially since I’m 79 YO.
Worked great Fine product
I installed this in the forend of my M1A polymer stock , to allow me to attach a Harris bipod. I inletted the stock in the gastube area under the gas cylinder to allow clearance so the gas cylinder would not contact this item. The plastic material cut away easily with a dremel tool and the whole job was done in 30 minutes.Attaching the bipod is as simple as with any sling swivel stud equipted rifle now. And accuracy was not affected. I highly recomend.
Harris bipod adapter
Had to dremel the wood down a bit, which I didn’t want to do and increase the size of the hole with a drill. The adapter interfered with the gas system. With that the adapter works great. Be prepared to modify your stock if you buy this.
Not so Good
Harries products are always high quality and this is no different. The issues are too much inletting is required to mount it to the stock drain hole to allow for gas cylinder clearance. The stock is now to thin for any decent support. Then the screw stud is too long and must be shortened. It's a great product, but not for this application.
Doesn't work in my wood stock M1A
After installing this, the barrel hits the plate when I reinstall the barreled receiver so I can't use this. Might work better in a plastic stock.
Do not use this item on an M14/M1A
This item is designed to mount to the water drain hole on the front of the stock. The wood or plastic on any stock is too thin at this point to hold up to the recoil forces placed there by mounting a bi-pod in that location. I have seen far too many cracked and broken stocks in need of repair due to this item. There are other options that are far better if you wish to mount a bi-pod on a M14/M1A.
