Why chance putting your scope in a bind, whether it is a $200 scope or a $1000+ scope? The Sinclair Scope Ring Lapping Tools are designed to correct the misalignment of scope rings. The Sinclair Scope Ring Lapping Tool is used to align the rings first and then to remove just enough metal from the scope ring bearing surface to fine tune the alignment. Misaligned rings actually cause your scope's main tube to bend, causing distortion and requiring you to use excessive amounts of windage and elevation which moves the scope farther from its optical center. The farther you are from the optical center, the more likely you are to have distortion and a darker sight picture. Sinclair Scope Ring Lapping Tools ( 1 inch, 30mm, 34mm, 35mm) are made from ground accuracy stock stainless steel that has a tolerance of +/-.0005 inch. Each Sinclair Lapping Tool comes with the lapping bars are 10 inch in length, which gives you plenty of stroke length to quickly lap your scope rings.

Necessity

I already had this same tool in one inch and 30mm and now needed a 34mm. It is clearly the tool of choice for ring lapping. The early tools were chrome moly but now are stainless, a plus. Some ring makers recommend against lapping, saying their rings and bases are so perfect. That's nice, but some of the receivers are way off. You'll never regret lapping your rings. Get extra lapping compound when you order.

Ideal

I had to remove my sight to work on the rifle and found the scope wasn't lapped. I decided to buy the set as I had both 30mm and 1" scopes in my safe. The lapping was easy and you could tell the difference just with the finger rubbing the mount after the lapping.

Found out that the shop that installed the sight on my rifle didn't lap the mount. After my compliant, they stated they didn't have a 30mm lap tool. Agreement was I'd buy the tool and use and they would pay for it. It was fairly easy to do, but time consuming. Good set of instructions included.

Benchmark of Lapping Bars

Purchased this lapping bar because I wanted to remove the imperfections on the scope rings that came with my rifle. When I opened the box, I knew this was the right tool for the job. The lapping bar is heavy duty and high quality. I also like the handle design because it enables you to lap the rings with a minimal amount of elbow grease. After aligning your scope rings, simply smear a light coat of included lapping compound to the bar and the lower half of the scope rings. Leave upper rings as is. Lap rings as directed until you remove approximately 65%-75% of the high spots on your scope rings. This is the gold standard of lapping bars because it enables you to achieve a perfect union between your scope tube and rings.
