Perfect
First, the service provided by Brownells is second to none. Shipped quickly and packaged well. The saddle was easy to install and holds the shells tightly, but are easy to remove when needed. It is well made and sturdy.
Works just as advertised.
I easily installed this shell holder on my 8 shot R870. I had the 'stock' sporter forend which was too long and replaced it with the, shorter, speedfeed 'police' forend. Also found here. The shells are really snug and secure. Very satisfied. The one that shipped to me did not have a window to see the serial number, contrary to the description.
Excellent! one Flaw.
This product is excellent, however the center mounting screws for the ally plate were drilled slightly slanted, however still holds tight! Holds the rounds snugly and lets loose when needed.
Perfect except for......
Everything as advertised. Only problem is me being left handed so will have to do a little Dremel work on the bottom rear corner to clear trigger finger.
Its a Must!
Very easy to install, i don't know why i didn't get this before. very handy.
Works great
I don't know how they can sell the higher priced ones out there when this one works so well. Securely holds shells and mounted up to my 1100 with no problems.
Very useful addition
At the price point, I don't think there is any competition in the market. Some folks have complained about the attachment point durability, and the complaints are in part valid. The nut could be almost twice as thick as it is for the front screw, and therefore could have lots more threads, and would still fit in the countersink of the back plate. However, if one will simply put a drop of Loctite 290 (green, wicking) on the nut after tightening, these seem to hold up fine. However, I don't think this piece was ever intended for high-round-count use like 3-gun competition. If that is your gig, then you might be better off with the (much more expensive) Hans Vang unit. I have these on three 590-A1s and an 870, and have only had problems with one. That one was my fault, for stripping the threads on the nut after removing and replaciong it several times during unrelated gunsmithing operations.
Good but not great
Doesn't work with 2 different forends I tried. Using the ATI Talon it needs to be about about 1/2 to 3/4" further backwards, the shell holder prevents it fully travelling so won't load shells. Make sure your forend will work with this.
This is the one!
Used on all my departments shotguns (870's) and they get treated BAD and have lasted YEARS. 'nuff said! Fours stars only because they're not made out of GOLD!! :)
Good accessory.
I purchased this side saddle for use on a Maverick Model 88 12 gauge. My intent was to make a short light home defense shotgun. I chose the Maverick because it was inexpensive, serviceable, adequate, and available. Because the Maverick comes with a "field" forend, I had to modify it to work properly with the side saddle. A few minutes with a Dremel tool solved the problem. Installation was quick and easy. I did use Loctite on all threaded screws. I'm pleaded with the product.
