SCREW HOLDER GIZZIE™

SCREW HOLDER GIZZIE™ Reviews & Ratings

Locks screws into place while you grind them off to length, file them down or shape the point. Saves untold hours spent looking for the screw the wheel flipped under the grinder, down the exhaust port or across the shop. Holes are for 6-48 and 8-40, but take most smaller and 'in-between' sizes. SPECS: Blued steel. 2-3/8' long, 3/8' wide.

Incredibly useful!
So simple and easy to use. I was skeptical about the price, but after using it to file down a couple of scope mount screws, I could not be happier.

One handy tool
A lot handier than using a pair of vise grips. I have flat spring stock and could have made one but figured by the time I got it made it would be a cost override compared to just buying one. Have used it several times and have only had it a couple weeks, very handy for cutting off screws with dremel and then sand the edges on a belt sander so I do not have to chase the threads.

Screw Holder Gizzie Is Great!
I bought this little screw holder several years ago and it is one of those things in life that always works and works very well. One other review claimed it was too expensive but I don't think so. By the time you would cut two pieces of spring steel and find a good quality rivet to put them together you would well have the price of this tool spent in time alone. I would estimate that I have used this tool more than a hundred times in my repair shop and it never fails to do what it is supposed to. In fact, now that I think about it I am going to order another one in case I lose my first one.

It’s OK
It didn’t hold the screws I specifically bought it for, which have a very slight head. The small hole was too big and the screws popped right out. Great idea though. I can see it coming in handy if I don’t loose it before I need to file any more screws.

It works but...
It works and I'll keep it but it's just two bits of arched spring steel that pivot on a rivet. Its pricey for what it is, but handy when you need it.

Waste of Money and Time!
First of all, after realizing Brownell's 6-48 screws do not fit flush (as claimed by Brownell), I decided to buy this Gizzie to hold the screw in place while I ground it down to the required length of my Rem 700 BDL. Just discovered this gadget does not hold the screw in place for two reasons: 1. The head of the 6-48 screws from Brownell are a bit smaller thus allowing the screw to slip through the hole and fly across the room when under the slightest amount of grinding pressure from a Dremel. See the attached photo where the 6-48 screw from Brownell easily slips through the 6-48 hole of the Gizzie also from Brownell. 2. The larger hole on the second piece of metal is directly across from the smaller hole (6-48), thus there is NOTHING to hold the head of the 6-48 screw in place. I tried several options from covering the hole with my finger or with duct tape or putting the screw in either side of the hole. Nothing worked. Thanks to the worthlessness of this "tool" I lost two very expensive 6-48 screws in the process. I wound up using a large pair of toenail clippers to grip the tiny screw just under the head, pinching it with my left hand while using the Dremel with my right hand. Should have thought of this before since it worked like a charm. Bottom Line: Order at your own risk. Screws are threaded correctly but will require some gunsmithing with a much better tool than this Gizzie. Don't believe all the hype from the positive feedback. I'm returning it ASAP and I'll soon find out if Brownell backs their products. Very disappointed!
