RUGER® 10/22® X-RING BARRELS Reviews & Ratings

Drop-in, .22 LR target barrel features a premium, button-rifled, chrome moly liner installed in a lightweight aluminum shell to achieve match grade accuracy and reduced weight. Deep, CNC machined flutes help keep barrel weight to 1 lb., plus increase rigidity and overall surface area for improved heat dissipation. Hardcoat anodized surface delivers added strength and abrasion resistance. Versatile, 1-16" twist rifling stabilizes a wide variety of hunting and match ammunition. Installation may require alteration to factory stock.

What Reviewers Are Saying
Product Performance
75%
The ability of the X-RING barrel to improve accuracy and provide lightweight handling is frequently noted. Many users report achieving impressive shot groupings and overall performance during shooting sessions, particularly in competitive settings, with a few exceptions where some experienced accuracy issues.
Installation Challenges
60%
A common theme across reviews is the need for fitment adjustments to the receiver upon installation. Most reviewers mention the necessity of sanding the barrel for a precise fit, indicating that while this can ensure a no-slop fit, it may deter those expecting a straightforward installation.
Quality Control Issues
25%
Some reviewers have reported significant defects, such as bulging in the barrel bore and misalignment, leading to poor performance. These quality control concerns hint at inconsistencies in manufacturing that can impact user satisfaction and reliability.
Customer Service Experience
20%
Experiences with customer service varied. While Brownells received positive feedback for their support and return process, there were complaints regarding Tactical Solutions' lack of responsiveness when addressing issues, which left some customers dissatisfied.
Lightweight Design
55%
The lightweight design of the barrel is a standout feature, with several reviews applauding how it enhances handling, making it perfect for both hunting and competitive settings. The aluminum outer shell combined with a steel liner was particularly appreciated for its innovative construction.

TacSol Xring
Steel Challenge shooter - have easily 25,000+ rounds through this XRing barrel. Still shoots great - accurate and light. Have it mounted to a factory Ruger receiver and now run a Volquartsen bolt. Zero issues with feeding as long as it is fairly clean. Yesterday, over 500 rounds in the session - one fail to feed - cleaned it up and good to go... I will say that the breach face has a noticeable indent where the bolt hits it. For a rough comparison, I have another full Volquartsen barrel, receiver and bolt set - has about 8,000 rounds total through it. Yesterday training, 500+ as well. The Volquartsen barrel tends to lead up a bit - the XRing seems to lead less. I shoot both rifles in competitions. Almost never have an issue as long as you use quality ammo and good mags - BX10 or DoubleKross.

Best overall light 10/22 barrel
This is the best overall light weight 10/22 barrel I have used 4 of these so far and really like them. This barrel in a Hogue overmold stock and a BX trigger changes your 10/22 to a light fast hunting rifle. add Talley rings and a good 2-7 rimfire scope to complete it I have noticed the newer 10/22 actions are tighter fitting than the older models so you do need to sand a little. I also cool the barrel in the freezer and warm the action with a heat gun before assembly. You can't go wrong with this barrel at this price from Brownells.

Lightweight & Accurate
Great barrel to lighten and increase accuracy of a 10/22! Yes, you have to fit it to the receiver.. that's a good thing, folks! Wrap a piece of medium emery cloth around the shank and twist the barrel to evenly remove material. Check often for a tight fit. No problem and a no-slop fit. Substantial accuracy improvement. 100% reliability with various ammo makes (so far). I'll be buying another one for another 10/22 I'm building up.

Super Lightweight Super Accurate
I installed this barrel, and zeroed my scope and at 50 yards. I shot the bulls-eye out if a target, just one big ragged hole. The barrel is super light weight and with the compensator it was surprisingly quiet.

Nice Barrel, Tough Install
I bought this to go on a customized ruger 10/22. In the end, this thing is sweet. Installation however, was a bit tougher than expected. I had a rough time getting the Ruger barrell out of my receiver, but that has nothing to do with this barrel. This barrel did however need to be sanded down to fit properly. The lug that sits in the recess in the receiver doesn't fit. I essentially had to sand off the finish to get a proper fit. Once fitted, this barrel is sweet. The finish looks good, but does not match exactly that of the 10/22 receiver. Once together however, you hardly notice the difference. The threads were nice and clean. The Tactical Solutions compensator screwed right on out of the box. All in all, I'm happy with this barrel. It looks good, and shoots darn straight. Just don't expect a quick drop in install.

Good quality, accurate, but design flaws
Overall, this product is good considering accuracy and aesthetics. However, I do not care for the aluminum in the muzzle threads and particularly on the breech face. High volume shooting will actually cause the steel bolt to dent the soft aluminum breech face. I switched to the Volquartsen carbon fiber barrel that has a SS breech and threads.

SAVE YOUR $$$
went from a stock Ruger barrel that was consistent dime sized groups at 50 yards. bought the hype and bought the barrel. went to TWO inch groups, thought it must be me, came back to the shop, checked it all out. cleaned it, went back to the range and same stuff. I even went so far as to install th much recommended Stainless Steel Performance Accessory V-Block for the second time out...no change. replacing it with the stock Ruger barrel today. save your money.

Maybe I got a lemon
Like everyone said in their review, this barrel requires sanding and fitment to work. I have less than 300 rounds in the barrel, and I recently found major defects in my barrel. Two sections of the bore started to bulge out. On further inspection, the barrel isn't straight. It has a slight curve. I've tried calling tactical solutions about this issue, but it appears that their customer service is nonexistent. Luckily, the Brownells staff is wonderful and walked me through the return process. I should mention that my original purchase date of this product was almost 3 years ago. For Brownells accepting a return that is over 2 years, that speaks volume about Brownells as a company.
