What Reviewers Are Saying
Fitting and Adjustments
85%
A common theme among reviewers is the need for extensive fitting and adjustments. Many customers expected the stock to be ready to use but found significant material that needed removal to achieve a proper fit. This has led to frustration, with some questioning the accuracy of the product's 'pre-finished' label.
Quality versus Expectations
70%
Several reviews highlight a disconnect between the product's marketing as 'pre-finished' and the actual quality received. Reviewers express disappointment, feeling that the stock requires more work than an unfinished product would, which detracts from overall satisfaction.
Aesthetic Appeal
40%
Despite the fitting issues, some reviewers appreciate the overall look and finish of the stock. They find that it has potential but are frustrated that they must invest significant time and effort to achieve the desired appearance on their rifles.
Value for Money
65%
The perceived value for money is a recurring topic, as some customers believe that for a 'pre-finished' product, the cost may not justify the level of work required to make the stock usable. This has led a few reviewers to recommend opting for an unfinished version instead.

Great value
Took very minor fitting to get the stock to fit the rifle. Probably could have let it go as is, but I wanted a little nicer contour, so did a little sanding, about 1/16th inch, and relieved some of the sharp edges. Mine came with a plastic butt plate already on it, and my friend who owns it was happy with that, so no other fitting was needed.

Rossi/Winchester Project
I was in need of a replacement but stock/forend for a Winchester model 1890 slide action .22 rifle. The wood will be modified to fit an original Rossi clone of the winchester. The Rossi itself is being highly customized and these Brownells broducts help. However, the wood will require extensive work even if it were to go on a Winchester. The manufacturer leaves way too much material to be removed.

New stock
The stock requires a lot of fitting. I had to remove some wood in order to get the metal end to fit. The stock requires a lot a shaping to make it the same size of the nut plate and the same width of the receiver.
2
Buttstock too wide
I ordered the stock to replace a customer's broken one. I assumed that because it is "pre-finished" there would be no external fitting required. The forend fits well. The buttstock fits pretty well onto the receiver (only minor fitting required there). However, the stock is about 1/4 inch wider than the butt-plate. So I ended up having to sand it all down to fit the butt-plate, then re-finish it. I would recommend just buying the unfinished version.

Product not as described
Stock required MAJOR fitting, not minor. Hours of wood working were required to get a proper fit to the action and but plate. Re finishing was also required which took several more hours. Calling this a 95% fit is a joke. Its more like a 75-80%. I would not recommend this product if you are looking for a pre finished quick replacement stock.

finished ? win. 1890 stock set
This stock set looks good in the picture is supposed to be 95% finished. I find this not to be the case the butt of the stock is at least 5/16 to 3/8 inch wider than the butt plate why put a finish on a piece of wood that has to sanded down this much this stock was the same dimension as the unfinished one I bought from here also. thought this would be an improvent I was wrong. would have given zero stars if possible
