Very good at what is does within reason
I use Renaissance wax for a multitude of things, I keep a coat on the blued guns stored in my safe... it's not a "fire and forget" type of compound that you can expect to apply and then not have to think about it for a extended amount of time. It's old school... more a barrier film than a protective product that gets into the pores of the metal to inhibit rust. For long term storage, I reapply a coat every 3-4 months. It really brings out the luster of a blued gun. I also use it as a final finish for inherently oily woods, such as Cocobolo or Rosewood, that causes conventional varnishes or topcoat finishes to not setup/dry properly due to the high oil content of the wood. It really makes the grain pop when applied to bare wood. I use it on the interior and exterior of leather holsters and knife sheaths. If you've ever experienced the "green fuzz" (verdigris) that forms around the metal snaps on a leather holster or knife sheath, after cleaning the green stuff off, a coat of Renaissance wax will take care of it forming again.
