Fantastic handguard
I was so happy to see that Magpul finally made this to work with my 1894. I purchased this in early Jun 2026 and this handguard has the recent changes that allow the changing of the forward insert which is made to be used on the 1894. This handguard along with the ELG stock are excellent. I do still love the look and feel of the laminated wood stock that came on my Trapper but the functionality and ergonomics of the ELG is fantastic. I think it looks great too. Very happy with this product.

Surprising
I installed to protect my wood part. The shape,and length,is really nice. I have ghost ring sights on this rifle, no scope. In combination with the buttstock, the gun feels great! It points better than stock. Longer forearm made a huge difference.

Magpul Handguard for 1895 Marlin
Excellent product, easy to install, much nicer than factory handguard, more functional. Service from Brownells excellent, responded immediately when I was having some ordering issues. I just wish they had the matching stock, in stock!

Fits a Marlin 30AS, 30-30, but not perfect
Bought this to modernize my old-school Marlin 30AS 30-30 with the matching ELG stock. This was pretty easy to get on after watching a couple of youtube videos. It's NOT a perfect fit, though.
There's a little play in it because the factory tenon that's on the rifle is smaller than the spacing in the handguard for it. Keep in mind, this rifle is 35yrs old. The product site mentions that 1895s will need a tenon, but I thought that's because the 1895s don't have one. The 30AS has a tenon, it's just not beefy enough to fill the spacing in the ELG handguard that's cut out for the tenon. Not sure why you'd make a handguard for a specific firearm and require another piece to make it fit properly, AND not include it or sell it. Very annoying.
It does look great, but I'll have to try to find a tenon that works for it to make it a tighter fit and eliminate the play.

Poor fit
Terrible fit on an 1894. I returned it immediately. The handguard uses a clamp to attach to the rifle magazine tube. When clamped all the way down to its fullest extent, the clamp barely contacts the tube, leaving the handguard loose and wobbly. It won’t fall off, but it’s a poor design and poor fit. Having the handguard moving around while shooting is just no good.
