What is the MAGPUL - ELG HANDGUARD M-LOK FOR MARLIN 1895?
The Enhanced Lever Gun (ELG) M-LOK Hand Guard is a lever-action hand guard designed to optimize the functionality of the Marlin 1895-pattern series of lever-action rifles. The hand guard is 12” long and attaches to the firearm using a patented mechanism that only requires the user to remove the OEM or other manufactured hand guard and end cap.

The ELG Hand Guard has six (6) M-LOK slots at the 3, 6, and 9 o’clock positions for mounting a host of accessories to help shooters make the most out of their classic hunting or home-defense rig. If a shooter wants the adaptability of the M-LOK system but wants to keep the firearm’s clean look while improving purchase on the gun when firing modern, heavy-recoiling .45-70 Gov’t rounds, the ELG Hand Guard is compatible with both Type 1 and Type 2 Magpul Rail Covers. The ELG has an integrated hand stop at the front of the hand guard.

The ELG Hand Guard currently fits ONLY Marlin 1895-pattern guns with the hand guard retaining cap. It will not fit 1894/336 pattern guns without modifications and will require a dovetail hand guard tenon to be added to any gun using a barrel band to retain the OEM hand guard.

Fantastic handguard
I was so happy to see that Magpul finally made this to work with my 1894. I purchased this in early Jun 2026 and this handguard has the recent changes that allow the changing of the forward insert which is made to be used on the 1894. This handguard along with the ELG stock are excellent. I do still love the look and feel of the laminated wood stock that came on my Trapper but the functionality and ergonomics of the ELG is fantastic. I think it looks great too. Very happy with this product.

I installed to protect my wood part. The shape,and length,is really nice. I have ghost ring sights on this rifle, no scope. In combination with the buttstock, the gun feels great! It points better than stock. Longer forearm made a huge difference.

Fits a Marlin 30AS, 30-30, but not perfect
Bought this to modernize my old-school Marlin 30AS 30-30 with the matching ELG stock. This was pretty easy to get on after watching a couple of youtube videos. It's NOT a perfect fit, though. There's a little play in it because the factory tenon that's on the rifle is smaller than the spacing in the handguard for it. Keep in mind, this rifle is 35yrs old. The product site mentions that 1895s will need a tenon, but I thought that's because the 1895s don't have one. The 30AS has a tenon, it's just not beefy enough to fill the spacing in the ELG handguard that's cut out for the tenon. Not sure why you'd make a handguard for a specific firearm and require another piece to make it fit properly, AND not include it or sell it. Very annoying. It does look great, but I'll have to try to find a tenon that works for it to make it a tighter fit and eliminate the play.
