M1500 7MM-08 REMINGTON STANDARD BARRELED ACTION

M1500 7MM-08 REMINGTON STANDARD BARRELED ACTION Reviews & Ratings

HOWA M1500 7MM-08 REMINGTON STANDARD BARRELED ACTION

The M1500 barreled action in 7mm-08 Remington comes fully assembled with the barrel chambered, installed, and properly headspaced - eliminating the most difficult work in "building" your own bolt action rifle. Mate it to a suitable stock or chassis system, and you have high-quality precision rifle for an amazingly affordable cost.

Each Howa M1500 7mm-08 Remington barreled action has a forged one-piece bolt body, with two locking lugs and an integral bolt handle. The bolt face is precisely squared to the barrel chamber for excellent contact with the receiver recess. An M16-style extractor ensures reliable, positive extraction. Receiver is drilled and tapped for a scope base. A full-length bottom metal with hinged floorplate, magazine box, mag spring, and front/rear action screws are part of the package.

Howa's HACT two-stage trigger delivers a light, consistent pull with a crisp let-off. The "Howa Actuator Controlled Trigger" has a uniquely configured sear and precision-cut contact surfaces, so creep is entirely eliminated. Pull weight is impressively light. The three-position safety allows the bolt to be completely locked and also lets you unload the M1500 7mm-08 Remington barreled action while it's on "SAFE". FFL required for purchase.

Not disappointed
My son and I built his hunting rifle/christmas gift with this 1500. Definitely sub MOA. Used the standard barrel profile 1500, Boyds At-One stock (love the adjustability for youth shooters), glass bed it with the kit Boyds sells, Timney trigger, Allen sling swivels, Magpul MS-1 sling, EGW scope mount, Athlon scope rings and Argos scope. Very nice project that didn't disappoint.

Howa barreled action
Good value and typically accurate rifles. Still waiting to get this dialed in.

I was wrong ...
I was completely floored when I realized (belatedly) that the barrel threading was 1/2x28. I was under the false impression this thread pitch would make it difficult or impossible to find muzzle-device mounts for suppressors. This is NOT TRUE. I found that Dead Air makes a Zeno device in this threading with a 30 cal bore. This will work perfectly. Looking forward very much to assembling a fine rifle.

Howa Barreled Action Goodness
After receiving a 7mm-08 Howa Barreled action I bedded it in a leftover Weatherby Vanguard synthetic stock, then ran through Howa's barrel break-in procedure. After 20 rounds to break in the barrel and zero the scope, it was time to test accuracy. With my favorite deer hunting ammo - 120gr Nosler Ballistic Tip - my first three round group at 100 yards was just 0.69". I then tried less expensive Federal Fusion ammo and the only group shot was even better: 0.51". Sure, these are just two groups, but the results were pretty amazing for a barreled action that cost just $450. As with Weatherby Vanguard 2s (essentially a Howa 1500 made in the same factory), reliability was great with no failures to feed, extract or fire. The only fault I could find with the action was that it was relatively heavy.

Accurate and Reliable
I bought a Howa 1500 in 7mm-08, and bed it in a Weatherby Vanguard synthetic stock from my gun closet. After following Howa's recommended break in procedures, I shot groups with my favorite deer ammo, 120gr Nosler Ballistic Tips. To my amazement, after only 20 rounds through the barrel my first three round group was just 0.69". I also brought some less expensive Federal Fusion ammo, which produced a 0.51" group. As with my Weatherby Vanguard (a rebranded Howa), the rifle was utterly reliable, with no failures to feed, extract or fire. The action's only failing is that it is relatively heavy. I worry this may be the gateway drug to a new addiction: building project rifles based on Howa barreled actions. I might just need a 25-06...

easiest build ever
The exact barrel and action I wanted. Added a Bell and Carlson stock and Leupold mounts and glass. Just what I wanted, nothing else!

Nice option for building my own
Very pleased that Brownells offers this barreled action as a stand alone. Howa is a great brand with good features for the money. It is a nice step toward building my own "custom" rifle.

Good receiver
Comes wrapped and oiled well. Cleans up easy enough, and is simple to throw into a stock and be good to go!

7mm-08 Howa barreled action
Installed Howa in a Boyd's laminate stock, I glass bed front recoil lug and pillar bedded rear action screw at trigger. Working on load development now that I have run 50 rounds through for break in. Using smk and varget at 3/8" at 100. Cons the safety is very stiff and clicks loudly
