M1500 6.5 CREEDMOOR CARBON FIBER BARRELED ACTION Reviews & Ratings

I've purchased a HOWA 1500 barreled receiver in 6.5CM, dropped it in an MDT Oryx chassis, added an MDT break, and arca rail. It made a phenominal build for the money. It was actually a project I did to teach my son some of the basics of bolt gun gunsmithing. On the one we ordered, we got the "standard" barrel which is incredibly thin. Even my son, with his limited experience, was skeptical as the barrel was so thin, it did not inspire much confidence. As one might expect, it was about 1.5 MOA. We ordered a prefit and the gun is consistently sub MOA. I also want to respond to a 3 star review left by Matt who admittedly doesn't even own a HOWA. His complaint was that the carbon fiber barreled action didn't offer any weight reduction and "actually was .2 heavier." I am not sure which HOWA BA he was comparing the carbon fiber BA to, however, the one that is most apples to apples is the 24" Heavy BA and the carbon fiber Heavy BA is just over 1 lb. lighter. I wanted to point that out and correct a misinformation. The HOWA BAs are an exceptional value and a great way to do a first custom build, first foreray into a new cartridge, or even just for fun. I wouldn't want to do a lot of competitions with the HOWA as my custom gun, however, if you are testing the waters and don't want to break the bank before knowing if competing is for you, then the HOWA is a great option. I would recommend trying the heavy barrel or carbon wrapped heavy barrel over the standard contour though.

This Howa shoots a predictable pattern every shoot. Packaged with a MDT field stock and hand loaded ammo, its shooting dime size groups at 200 yards. I broke in the barrel with one shot cleans for first 20 rounds, switched to 2 shot cleans for next 10, Then every 5 shots for next 20. Yeh I know it's a lot of ammo, but I was also loading several different bullets and powders at the same time. I just feel like if your going to break in a barrel, might as well see what the heck it likes. I'm not PRS, I'm a hunter. I see above that someone gave it only 3 stars, because of a weight factor, but if you look at a 24 inch heavy barrel in just carbon steel and compare this heavy profile barrel with Carbon wrap, the carbon is over a pound lighter, so with that said I don't understand why someone who does not own one, would give it a bad wrap, ( pun intended). But I choose this for its weight reduction and accuracy, when hunting. Its a great investment and worthy of 5 stars for the money. You can spend more on another rifle or action, but I'm retired and on a fixed income and just can't justify spending more for the great results I'm getting. I'll spend the money for another caliber and good glass.

I have owned serveral of the Howa 1500 heavy Barreled actions. They make a great shooting rifle! Accurate paired with a Boyd’s varmint stock in my experience. GREAT “budget” build I guess depending on your budget.
