HOWA M1500 300 PRC 24" BARRELED ACTION

The Brownells Exclusive Howa 1500 Barreled Actions are the perfect platform for a quality precision rifle build, at an affordable cost. This variant of the popular Howa M1500 barreled action is chambered for the new .300 PRC (.300 Precision Rifle Cartridge) round, introduced by Hornady in 2018. Now, you can build a custom rifle chambered in this powerful long-range cartridge based on the .375 Ruger case and designed to shoot very-low-drag .308 bullets. It comes fully assembled with the barrel chambered, installed, and properly headspaced - eliminating the most difficult work in "building" your own bolt action rifle. Install in the stock or chassis system of your choice to form a high-quality long-range rifle at a very affordable cost.

The potential of a cartridge like the .300 PRC would be wasted on a rifle with a workaday trigger, so you get Howa's HACT two-stage trigger that delivers a "de-LIGHTful" consistent pull, and a crisp let-off. The "Howa Actuator Controlled Trigger" has a uniquely configured sear and precision-cut contact surfaces, so creep is entirely eliminated. A three-position safety allows the bolt to be completely locked and also enables the action to be unloaded while on safe.

Other features include:

  • 24" Heavy barrel with 1-8" rifling
  • 5/8-24 tpi muzzle threads (cap included) for mounting device of your choice
  • Two-stage target trigger with 3-position safety
  • Tough matte black Cerakote® finish

NOTE: MDT oryx 105531 will work with this action: https://mdttac.com/us/oryx-chassis-system

The "standard equipment" of the Howa M1500 .300 PRC barreled action doesn't stop there! It has Howa's one-piece bolt body with two locking lugs and an integral bolt handle. The bolt face is precisely squared to the barrel chamber for excellent contact with the receiver recess. An M16-style extractor ensures reliable, positive extraction. A full-length bottom metal with hinged floorplate, magazine box, mag spring, and front/rear action screws are part of the package. Receiver is drilled and tapped for a scope base. FFL required for purchase.

Worth every dime.
This is my second Howa build, and not my last. My first was a .308, it impressed me so much I just had to try a 300PRC. My assembly was the Howa 24" BBL, a MDT XRS, Arken 6x24x50, Nightforce 20moa base, Vortex low rings, Ultradyne brake and a bolt extension. The bolt extension I find to be a must have but the company that sells them charges a horrible shipping rate @ $36 for it, which is a rip off...but you really need that $10 part. Anyways, the gun is in its infancy. Twenty rounds of 225 gr fodder breaking it in. We really didn't care about group size but it was doing as well as my .308 did during break in and it shoots 1/2 moa. One thing we did notice is that the recoil is nearly absent. I'm not even exaggerating. It recoils less than a 5.56 AR platform. Its just shocking. Granted, this is the first brake I have ever used but I am impressed. As built, the gun is 13 pounds, 11 ounces, so its not light. The trigger is the best factory trigger I have felt. Here's the negative: The bolt needs some love. The long action has a lot to do with it seeming to be sticky but my son thinks its very smooth. And! Nothing to do with the Howa 300PRC, but finding a reasonable chassis is tough to find with a 3.8+ AICS magazine well opening. First off, I'm not crazy about the overall chassis look. My .308 build has a Bell and Carlson Medalist which is a nice tactical stock with a aluminum bed. The closest thing I could find for the PRC was the MDT XRS. What I didn't realize is the long action XRS will not take a AICS mag for the 300PRC. I really wasn't too cranked about it because I totally planned to single load it. But then finding a "bobsled" for it took a while but a company out of Minnesota carries them for a 3.7 opening. Also you can 3D print them, which my son did. Overall, nice rig and I can't wait to work out some loads for it. I am, 100%, going to build me a Howa .223 simular to my other builds and I'll probably use the scope on this for it and get a better Arken. We shall see how this Arken is at long distance. The 300PRC was my Christmas present to me but it looks like the .223 will be instead. Enjoy.

Great buy
Dropped this Howa 300 PRC into an Outlier chassis, topped it off with an Arken EP5 Gen II scope. She will shoot sub-MOA all day long with Hornady 225 gr. ELD-Ms. This is a great setup for a budget rifle.

My 300 PRC
I ABSOLUTELY LOVE MY NEW 300 PRC! Just dropped it in a new MDT Oryx chassis and now I’m waiting on my new 5-25x56 Gen 2 Arken EP5 to come in, so I can mount it. I’m so ready to shoot it out to a grand and more!

can't review when you can't find correct magazine to shoot it
Bought from Brownell's the Howa m1500 300 prc barreled action. The only magazine out there is the 3.850". This product takes the 3.715" and I can't find one anywhere.

Mid
Put a box of 20 212gr through this to break in the rifle. Cleaned the barrel over 3 shots. Over the course of 20 shots, the bolt jammed 3 different times. Hoping it will correct itself after more break in.
