XS Scout Mount Marlin 1894 44 Mag. S/S
This mount is a Very GOOD" set up for this type rifle . The back of the Scope mount`s far enough forward so you can operate the hammer without the scope over the top of the hammer. The scope is far enough forward , where it won`t bust your eye from muzzel blast. it mount`s your scope Very low close to the barrel where it should be on this rifle. Mine is set up with a 2X7X28 MM scope , an Exlent Set Up on this 44 mag rifle for 100 too 200 yd. uses . The Con`s "... I Had to do a LOT" of grinding on the bottom of the mount with a Dremal tool to get the mount to fit right without Flexing when you tork the dang thing down , but FINELY" got it to fix Great" after about 3 hour`s work on it. That part NOT" , fun , but beside`s the extra work on the mount it`s self , it`s a Beautiful set up on the little 44 rifle and work`s Extreamley well with my scope set up. I Still give it 5 stars . My gun shoot`s Pretty Small Groups at 100 yds. now and 5 inch groups at 200 yds. I Love The XS Mount system on this rifle , It IS" , One Fine Set Up On the Rifle !
I would buy this product again and again
Simply perfect.
Scout Mounts are Great
I have mounted these on rifles for use of scopes and red dot sights. The ease of use and balance to the weapon makes it very fast, handy, and accurate.
Mounted on Marlin 336BL
I put the scope mount on my Marlin 336BL. Yes, as other reviews state, it does require a degree of fitting. It even says that may be required in the instructions. In any event, I was able to mate the pillar block and the mount to the receiver in about 30-40 minutes. After that, the rest was simple to install with the supplied hardware. Looks good and is very solid at this point. In my opinion, I would rather fit the mount than it be oversize or out of spec in some other way to ensure it fits a variety of different guns without alteration...kind of like having it custom fit for my gun.
Excellent overall
Comes with everything you'll need and then some. They include a hard plastic punch for removing the dovetail sight. Mine came out with only a few light taps. They also include about 10x more threadlock than you actually need, and more is most always better. Mounting process is very simple and good instructions are included. Installation took all of ~10 minutes for me with only a light sanding of the bottom of the pillar block to fit in the dovetail slot. Now the 1 star off things are small, but somewhat relevant. The etched lettering on the side is fairly blurry, and I don't like that they smacked the patent number right on the side and still blurry. Also, the bolts don't line up with each other at all when torqued. Again that's small and insignificant overall, but I feel it would look much better if the flat head slots lined up. Besides that it is completely solid, and very easy to install.
Warning!
Warning! Will not fit octagon barreled cowboy guns. This should be made known in advance but it is not. Otherwise they work good but are made of soft aluminum and marr up real easy.
336 Marlin Scout Scope mount
The mount is well made with good finish. The down side is the fitment to the rifle. It requires substantial work for proper fit of the scope. In my personal experience the mount holds the scope too high (requiring too much upward windage adjustment) to zero. With as many standard Marlin 336's produced, this should not be required.
Weaver spec recoil grooves :(
Well built rail, that is easy to install. Be aware that the recoil grooves are weaver spec and quick detach mounts that are picatinny spec will not work (i.e. ADM T1-L).
To many variables, cause poor fitting
No one tells you how many variables need to be perfect for this to work. I hade to remove with a dremel over a 16th of metal from the barrel mount hole. After all that fitting and installation the hole mount was canted to the left with nothing that could be done to correct it
What a let down..
Received the scout mount for my brand new Marlin 1895G 45-70 and found the rail section to be of such poor quality and lightweight construction that it was curved along its length with a slight warp. The scope sits angled on the mount, regardless of the adjustments made at the dovetail left and right. XS has really dropped the ball with their QC process. Additionally, the screws and dovetail bolt are cheap aluminum that you'll be lucky to mount without damaging. I would have paid quite a bit more for a quality mount instead of this cheap piece of junk.
