This bag is heavy duty leather, pliable, and sort to prevent scratching the stocks of your rifles. I filled mine with sandbox sand, so be sure you tamp it down every so often to ensure even distribution of the sand. It helps to use a funnel and a plastic straw to get the sand past the fold in the filler tubes. Once it's where you want the firmness, you should be ready to shoot. Be aware that the sand will still be settling for a while, so you might need to add more sand.

Just a comment on filling them- I bought a 70 lb bag of sand at Home Depot, $7.50 Run the sand through a screen to get the fine heavy sand. Filling can be a bit tedious, take an air nozzle and blow air through the filler access to expand the leather before and periodically during filling it.
Very high quality materials/well made
I am very happy with this rest. It's well made with very high quality leather. As stated, it was time consuming to fill but well worth the effort. I used weighted polyurethane pellets like used to stuff bean bags because they don't retain moisture nor do they mildew. A 2lb bag was plenty to fill it as well as the owl ear front rest bag I also purchased.
Beautifully Made but Takes Time to Fill
This is a well made product and the woman who makes it even signs the enclosure. However, it takes about an hour to fill one bag. I used fine beach sand ( Florida) and dried the sand in an oven before use. Have a variety of small funnels on hand and a Phillips screwdriver to tamp the sand into place. At today's labor rates, it would be better to pay extra UPS/Fed Ex to have the bag filled at the factory. Other than that, you get a full leather bag made in the USA that will last a lifetime.
Rabbit Ear Rear Bag
I would have liked it if it was taller. I use bipods on all but one of my rifles the rabbit ear bag is a little low for that type of shooting.
Smells like my old baseball mitt
Something about this type of leather brings back old memories. The construction is first rate, but no instructions come with it, so had to search the Internet for clues. There are three fill ports one for each ear and one for the bottom. The Internet says that the bottom should be filled as tightly as possible while the ears are personal taste. I spent a lot of time rotating it while filling with Brownells heavy bag sand (do this outside, kids!) to ensure that the sand filled every nook and cranny. After filling one all 3 compartments, I had to go back and fill the other two more than once. Havent been to the range with it yet.
