Designed to handle the worst kinds of humidity problems to give your gun safe, locker or cabinet the perfect environment for storing valuable firearms. GoldenRod dehumidifiers use a sealed, electric element to safely heat to a surface temperature of less than 150°F (almost too warm to hold); air inside the enclosure stays slightly warmer than the ambient, outside temperature. Expansion of the heated air drives out rust-causing moisture and circulates warm, dry air throughout the storage area. Mount GoldenRod horizontally at the bottom of the enclosure using the provided universal mounting brackets, plug it in, and forget about it. There’s nothing to empty, refill, or bake dry. Your firearms are continuously protected from rust and mildew. Select from 12', 18', 24' and 36' long models. The longest unit that fits horizontally is recommended. GoldenRod cannot overdry an area. PROTECTS GUNS IN HUMID ENVIRONMENTS

I haven't installed this one yet, but have used them for years to protect guns in the often humid climates where I live. I install them at the bottom of vertical long-gun racks in the space between the butt of the stock and the wall, so convection currents carry the slightly warmed air up over the metal parts. I have never had any evidence of corrosion under otherwise rather unfriendly conditions for metal parts. The annual cost for electricity is minimal.

Must Use In FL!

I have used Golden Rod dehumidifiers for 30+ years. There are no substitutes for using one of these in a safe here in FL. I would not trust any other form of dehumidifying for expensive guns, watches, etc. Without it you cannot keep rust off any gun even when inside climate controlled home. Easy to install and seemingly last forever as I have never had to replace one. I always install one immediately after getting a new safe.

Works As Advertised

I have used one version or another of these dehumidifiers in every guns safe I have owned and have never had any issues with rust; provided I once a year took a look at the guns and gave them a proper wipe down with some rust preventative oil. Not much of an issue to me. I live in FL so you will not find a more humid or rust inducing environment than here in Satan's Sauna. I wouldn't have a safe or storage space without the appropriate size Golden Rod to keep the humidity away. I have come to trust them to do their job for over 40 years. Much less attention required than desiccant crystal canisters.

Perfect accessory for your safe!

Golden Rod raises the temperature slightly to push out cool / damp air and prevent condensation. Every time I open the safe I can feel a difference in temperature in the air that comes out. The description shows the square footage that is conditioned, but don't go by that. Buy the largest one that will fit across the bottom of your safe. This dehumidifier will not over-dry the air.

WORKS JUST GREAT, KEEPS ALL MY RIFLES IN GREAT CONDITION. AFTER I HAD TO CHANGE THE PLUG FOR US IN THE UK, USE A 3 PIN PLUG. NOT A PROBLEM.

Good but No Cure

I own both GoldenRod and Gun Saver dehumidifiers. I guess they are better than no dehumidifier, but they are not a cure for rust. I have gotten rust on several guns in different safes protected with these items. Experience has taught that you still need to clean and oil ofter to avoid rust. I'd recommend RUST PREVENTIVE No. 2. This has proven to be a good combination with the electric dehumidifiers. Part may be due to my area's humidity - but hey, that's what they claim to help with.
