Excellent ammo
I’ve used this ammo ever since I purchased my 308. It’s very accurate and cycles perfectly. It’s a bit pricey but you get what you pay for. So far every shot fired with no issues.
Federal SMK Gold Medal
It was the best Store bought ammo that I have run through my Ar10 308 yet
King of Ammo
Some of the best sub MOA ammo available. I have used Federal ammo for years. The Federal 308 168gr MatchKing is my go to ammo for precision shooting and large to medium size game. I bought a case of this ammo before going on a hunt. took it for a test in my new Noveske and was getting right at 1/2 MOA out of it. Highly recommended Ammo and very clean. Brownells was fast shipping my ammo as usual. love the free shipping.
Great ammo
This is my standard ammo for my scoped R700. I like to keep a few 100 rounds on hand, so whenever I need to added a few dollars to take advantage of a Brownell's coupon I'll throw in a few boxes of this stuff.
The gold standard
I've never seen ammunition as consistent as this ammunition. Granted, I do not own a chronograph, but when my Accuracy International AT 308 can routinely punch out sub half inch groups all day long with this ammunition, needless to say I'm satisfied. I've never seen a firearm that does poorly with this ammunition, and many full-on custom rifle manufacturers, including Tac-Ops which GUARANTEES 1/4" groups at 100 yards, recommend this specific ammuntion. Do yourself a favor and try it, you won't be disappointment, this is my go-to ammunition for pure accuracy.
Good bang for the buck..
I use this ammo for work. It performs very well out to about 800 yds and then begins to tumble. The lots are very consistent, so make sure you but what you need from the same lot number. Good hunting!
Great quality factory ammo. Consistent
168 fggm always groups well. Consistent. Federal makes good ammo
Would you recommend this?
Yes, I would recommend to a friend
Accurate and reliable
Almost as good as my best hand load. Will have to try it out at the 600 yard range.
Accuracy good but velocity sub-par!
I shoot long range, 1,000 plus yards. I purchased 25 boxes of Federal Gold Match 168 gr SMK. I received the shipment in 2 different lot numbers. While the accuracy was pretty good out of both lots, 0.68 MOA at 200 yards for lot #1 and 0.79 MOA for lot #2, no wind of course, the velocity out of my stock Remington 700 Mil-Spec 5-R 308 Win. was way low! The measured round, averaged of 20 from each lot, were 2548 fps for lot #1 and 2572 fps lot #2, at 72F, 92% humidity and 0 ft for altitude (sea level). The extreme spread was over 120 fps! The advertised velocity is 2700 fps and I expected around 2650 fps to 2620 fps. While this may not seem such a big deal, it is the difference of 41.7 MOA that I should have been able to dial in for 1,000 yards, as opposed to 44.9 MOA that I actually had to dial in for field conditions at the place and time I was shooting! It also added 0.25 MOA to my spin-drift! The extreme spread made it virtually impossible to hit deer sized targets at 1,000 yards with any consistency. I will be going back to Black Hills Match as the ammunition is much more consistent and of better quality than what I have experiance with the Federal Gold Medal Match!
