Great Idea, Poor Execution
Plunger sticks in the rear (reduced gas) position after only a few rounds of clean, new, factory ammunition - i.e. will not come forward (allow more gas) under spring pressure alone, requiring at least a fingernail (sometimes a screwdriver) to retract. Product should come with (or at least recommend) a high-temp lube / antiseize to allow the plunger to retract under spring pressure as designed. Listing says "Uses RIFLESPEED straight gas tubes" - but doesn't really clarify that it doesn't come with any, doesn't work with MILSPEC tubes, and is unworkable out of the box without buying additional parts. It would be helpful if Brownells used a drilldown menu to add the right size tube to the gas block purchase. One of the main reason to buy this is for suppressed use, specifically to turn an AR into an ultra-quiet equivalent of a manual straight pull bolt gun. Can it do this? The Questions section gives three different, contradictory answers. According to the manufacturer's website, this requires experimenting with different plungers (two of a possible twelve are included). Different variables (loads, port sizes, BCG masses, springs, etc.) can lead to ambiguity in recoil / reliability / ROF, but "off" should be easy. Also, the shortest dial size was too long for my Form 1 SBR, and I had to turn off half the dial on a lathe to get it out of the way of the muzzle device and suppressor. In summary, sometimes I enjoy a "science project" dependent on my personal initiative; I associate that with kits or cheap fixer-uppers, not premium parts that cost 10x normal factory / MILSPEC parts. The latter should have everything required for success in the box.

Bad QC
Bought Riflespeed gas block and riflespeed gas tube. Went to install the roll-pin to attach the tube to the block and it would leave 1/16" sticking out. Split one roll pin, removed and tried another pin from other side and it got stuck as well. Reached out to Riflespeed customer support and got no response after a week. Ended up ordering a .0781" chucking reamer which fixed alignment issues between the block and tube. Also used 420 stainless coiled spring pin, worked much better than the slotted spring pin provided by Riflespeed. Annoying what I had to go through to resolve fitment issues between parts made by the same company on a $220 gas block+tube. Paying a premium should mean this doesn't happen and when it does, customer service should resolve the issue quickly. Riflespeed fails on both points.
