GAS CHECKS

GAS CHECKS Reviews & Ratings

If you cast your own bullets, Hornady's crimp-on gas checks will enhance their performance. During sizing, the gas check crimps to the base of cast lead bullets to seal gasses and protect the base from deformation. Hornady gas checks are the only real choice for bullet casters. Packaged 1000 per box.

If you're going to shoot lead.
Two things you need when you're shooting lead through a bolt action; bullet lube and gas checks. Lube to keep the fouling down and gas checks for a good seal. Nothing like running a light load through a 30-06 shooting rabbits and not blowing the whole thing up. And the price of these checks beat everybody else. Thumbs up Brownells.

work great
Use a gas check mould to cast with. They crimp on tightly when You size them. Been using Hornady gas checks for many years.

Top of the line.
Have used these for many years. You have to use a gas check mould to use these. They crimp on tightly when you size the bullet. I have been using these on 45 Colt and 454 Casull. Outstanding on the Casull. Pushing 300 grain bullets hard with no leading. Stay within safe pressure limits!

Great gas check!
You can shoot cast bullets without a gas check, many designs don't require them. But for those that are designed to use a gas check, these are what you need. I shoot HIGh velocity loads. I'm not talking 1600 fps, as most cast bullet shooters load. I'm talking the high velocities usually associated with jacketed bullet loads- above the "standard" range for cast bullets. I regularly fire accurate cast bullet loads in my 222 Rem that exceed 2860 fps with NO leading. I attribute my success to proper bullet fit, a good lube, and a good gas check. These help make the difference- they crimp on, and stay locked in place helping to create a more uniform bullet base which aids my down range accuracy.

Short on quality, short on numbers
Many of the gas checks were "split" or malformed. Additionally, the box was about 40 gas checks short of 1000.
