Fits Mossberg 940 JM Pro
I had asked around and been told even by Magpul that this wouldnt work for the 940 JM Pro. They must have never actually tried it out. Ive taken mine to the range and hiked miles with it slung over my shoulder; it works and keeps working. I cannot take all the credit since GG&G make a product that turned me onto the correct dimensions. I figured I would do the research for everyone else and I can confirm it works.
Rock Solid
I bought this clamp because the clamp that came with my magazine extension didn't fit right. This clamp is well made and fits perfectly. The included pads will not prevent marks on your barrel from the clamp, but they do keep the clamp in place under recoil. A hex nut was included if you don't want the sling mount. Highly recomended.
Excellent piece of kit!
I had been waiting for this since the release of the SGA 870 buttstock. Easy install on an 870 equipped with a magazine extension. Magpul includes self adhesive silicone pads that are installed in cast recesses in the clamps and bear against the barrel and extension surfaces. Nice touch as I usually have to use electrical tape. If you just want to use the clamp without the HK snap link hook Magpul includes the nuts required to lock the clamping screw in place. Double check with Magpul but it appears to be compatible with ball bearing push button sling swivels as well. Just for grins I did some test fits on a Mossberg 500 and 590A1. As expected it did not fit and it did not appear some judicious Dremel tool work would help. All in all a great piece of Magpul kit.
Great product, but won't fit "X" bbls
This is a well-designed, reasonably-priced sling mount for the 870. Unfortunately, it doesn't fit the newer barrels meant to be used with "X" marked mag extension clamps. These have less standoff between the barrel and magazine tube. Would've worked great for my old setup, but wouldn't fit my newer barrel.
May or may not work
I was excited about this product when I first saw it. As an armorer for a law enforcement agency I had been looking for a forward sling attachment that worked with a QD sling attachment. The Magpul mount fit the bill without the mass of some other mounts. It worked very well on some shotguns. I have numerous 870s in inventory with some more than 20 years old. We also have a variety of magazine extensions. As previously mentioned in a review this product will not work with every barrel/extension combination. I checked the outside dimensions of the extensions and barrel (factory barrels) with a micrometer. There is a variation in the dimensions of both the barrels and the extensions. Bottom line is if its fits on your barrel/extension combination then it is a great product.
Nice clamp, may not fit your setup
I purchased this clamp to mount to an 870 Police Magnum with a Wilson Combat 2+ mag ext. tube. This clamp did not fit this combination. The spacing between the barrel and ext. tube was too small. However, this clamp did fit perfectly onto the same 870 Police Magnum when used with a Remington 2+ ext. tube. The outer diameter of the Remington ext. tube is slightly smaller than that of the Wilson Combat ext. tube. I'm rating this item a 3 for lack of published specifications regarding the supported barrel and ext. tube diameter combinations.
