I really like this upper vise block. It works well for an AR-15, and even My Armalite AR-10. (Armalite is known for having proprietary dimension differences). Fair price, rugged, and easy to use.

A must for muzzle devices
Excellent fit and finish. Used it to attach four muzzle devices (.308 and 5.56) in less than an hour, three with shims, so the torque was high, and one with a crush washer. Simple and secure, highly recommended.
It did what I wanted, and then some.
I used this for the final step in installing a YHM handguard onto an M4 receiver; i.e. to align the top rails on the handguard & receiver while I torqued the jam nut tight. Worked perfectly. [Note: I did _not_ use this vise block to tighten down the barrel nut when installing the barrel, though you certainly can (Brownells does it in one of their videos). I used the other Wheeler upper vise block, SKU 100-042-062, to install the barrel.] The rail alignment is really the only reason I purchased this vise block, but once the handguard was installed/aligned properly, I was pleasantly surprised to discover how super convenient this block makes other tasks. I wish I had bought this product before I installed the forward assist; it would have made the job a little bit easier (it would still take 3 hands to do, but it would have been easier). Plus this vise block also works on AR-10 style receivers. Add in quality construction and you have a 5-star product here.

I bought this device thinking I would use it for building uppers. I do use it for that purpose buy I use it more for keeping free float hand guards aligned when installing them on an AR15 upper receiver. It works as advertised every time.
Just what I needed
I have an Upper Vice Block....but it was specifically for an AR-15 upper. I was building an AR-9 and had a dedicated AR-9 Upper Receiver...which did not fit my AR-15 block... This Wheeler Upper Vise Block fit my AR-9 Upper perfectly and allowed me to mount my 9mm carbine barrel to the upper receiver. Love it. Cons: A few sharp edges...easy to knock off.
