CFE® BLK SMOKELESS RIFLE POWDER Reviews & Ratings

HODGDON POWDER COMPANY CFE® BLK SMOKELESS RIFLE POWDER

CFE® BLK is a new Spherical powder from Hodgdon, specifically formulated for the 300 AAC Blackout cartridge. This new powder provides full function of AR-type rifles throughout the range of bullet weights, and is perfect for those subsonic reduced loads. In addition to being the perfect solution for the .300 Blackout, it performs beautifully in many smaller capacity cartridges, in particular, varmint cartridges such as the .17 Hornet, .17 Ackley Hornet, .218 Bee, .221 Fireball and many more. It also yields top performance in the 6.8 Remington SPC and the 7.62X39mm Russian cartridge. This fine powder meters like a dream and leaves no copper residue, extending accuracy for longer shooting periods, and making clean-up quick and easy. It is truly a remarkable new propellant!

Great stuff
Brownells came through with what I needed, again. Order arrived well packaged and on time with alerts from brownells. Should work great for 300 blk and 300 hamr.

Extremely fine and consistent
This spherical powder has very small granules, and thus meters like water for easy and consistent bulk loading with an analog powder meter. I use this for loading maximum charge 300 HAMR and for heavy bullet weight .450 Bushmaster. Excellent results, clean burning, with very little flash, which has been my experience with all of the Hodgdon CFE line.

Good Powder for Subsonic 300 BLK
Excellent powder for subsonic loads in 300 Blackout: 194 gr Lehigh Max Exp (Solid Copper) 1075 ft/s StDev = 9 ft/s 220 gr Berrys Plated Soft Point 1057 ft/s StDev = 11 ft/s Excellent reliability in a suppressed AR-15 SBR. Load data is available on line. Above data was obtained using Std Small Rifle primers. Not sure why other reviewers had problems with this powder, but I have shot hundreds of the Berry's load in my SBR with no issues and very good velocity consistency. Using a long barrel rifle could cause problems with velocity consistency.

Awesome in 300 Hamr
I use this powder for loading 300 Hamr. I get excellent results with 125 Speer TNTs, 130 Speer Hot Cor and 150 Speer Gold Dot (300 Blackout version). The powder is very fine and may leak from a powder dispenser. I have a cheap Lee perfect powder measure and the fine grains tend to bind it up. A better powder measure might eliminate the issue. Up next will be some 7.62x39!

Makes 300BLK upper go bang
I built a 300 AAC Blackout upper for more fun with my AR-15 lower, and for punching holes in paper (targets). Powder is hard to get these days, and I was finishing the build when this stuff (Hodgdon CFE BLK) became available. This powder has spherical kernels, so it sorta 'flows'... if you spill any, it kinda spreads out pretty quickly. This also means it meters great (!), and tips out of a metal powder funnel fast. It's a little staticky, had to rap the side of the powder thrower to get the last kernels to fall off the side when I emptied it. It's not the highest density bang for volume, and almost fills a 300BLK cartridge with bullet set 0.32" into 1.363" case (ie my Lee cast lead or a Speer 180gn SP). This is probably a good thing for the loaded cartridge, but makes it harder to find squibs by shaking. The max load for many bullets is slightly compressed. Cons: Does not smell like roses, but I didn't notice it particularly stinky either. Gun make powder in cartridge go bang, hole appears on target, end of story!

good powder
I use this in 300 whisper and so far every bullet configuration i've used it in, it's worked fine. So if you haven't tried cfe black it would be a good one to try.
