BROWNING HI-POWER HAMMER, SEAR & SPRING SET

BROWNING HI-POWER HAMMER, SEAR & SPRING SET Reviews & Ratings

Four-piece, target set allows precise fitting for sear engagement to greatly improve trigger feel and function. All sets include a long lasting, heat-treated, CNC-machined sear; 21 lb., reduced-power, hammer spring; factory-weight, firing pin spring and premium, commander-style hammer for no-bite, shooting comfort. CS281 features a standard, round spur hammer with narrow, chamfered edges to eliminate slide drag. CS285 have new, No-Bite, chamfered, ring hammer with deep, contoured back for less weight and reduced lock time. Hardened, tool steel sear replaces the factory, cast part; polishes easily and holds its angles for thousands of rounds. Gunsmith fitting recommended.

Best trigger pull of all my BHP's!
I installed this kit in a new Girsan MC P35 OPS. The factory trigger pull was so horrendous it could not be measured. In excess of 20lbs. The sear and hammer engagement surfaces polished, but the angles were uneven and terrible. To call the difference between the factory hammer/sear/springs and the Cylinder & Slide replacement, night and day would be a disservice to C&S. This gun now has the best trigger over every other BHP I have owned or currently own, by a wide margin.

Awesome
I purchased the C&S hammer and sear separately on sale, and used a Wolf 26lb hammer spring. I may have just been lucky, but installation was straightforward with no modifications needed for proper safety function. This along with mag safety removed resulted in a very nice, crisp, 4lb trigger with no creep. (Restored Hi-power alloy frame, range queen.)

Parts work, some issues.
I'm not into spur type hammers, more into the "commander" type hammers; this will be the 3rd swap out on another Browning HP. The new hammer and spur fit well, still working on the safety lever to function properly. The prior two were no problem.

Well worth the money
My comment would be basically the same as Jim B's. These parts require the services of a knowledgeable gunsmith to install them, but it's well worth the cost. My gunsmith tried to do a trigger job with the original hammer and sear, but they wouldn't hold an edge. He replaced them with these parts, and not only is hammer bite largely a thing of the past, I've got the cleanest Hi Power trigger I've ever experienced, breaking right at 4.0 lbs like I asked.

Wonderful product~ but !
When this product says gunsmith installation "recommended", you should read gunsmith "required". If you are a novice, be forewarned that this set, or any others require some finite tuning. The sear on my set was not even close to fitting the hammer shelf well~ if this had been installed 'as is'~ this would have been a full auto Browning ! Major stoning was required to mate the hammer to the sear, and even after that was done, some refining was required to the safety geometry to get the safety to engage in both 'half-cocked' and 'full-cocked'. In the end~ it created a no slack/no creep and very crisp trigger pull with a significantly reduced locktime. Well done C&S !!!!

21 lbs is too low
The hammer and sear themselves are great. Look good and are clear improvements in quality and function. However, the mainspring/hammer spring that are supplied with these kits is way too low. Every gunsmith and hi-fan I have talked to has told me that the 21 lbs main spring is so low that it can cause problems with frame battering. Also, even C&S told me that under no circumstances use +P ammo and to avoid even foreign produced ammo because it's a little more hot than SAAMI specs. Moreover, they told me that you MUST use a heavier 18.5 lbs recoil spring to keep slide velocities in spec. I have shot my gun with these parts using the heavier recoil spring and it functions well. However, I am so gravely concerned with the long term effects on the frame that I going to increase the weight of the hammer spring. C&S makes this kit, but with a heavier mainspring. Buy that one and avoid my mistake.
