The BRN-16A1® Complete Upper Receivers are back!


Styled after the issued U.S. M16A1, the BRN-16A1® has distinct features, found on late 1960s M16 rifles.

The muzzle of the BRN16A1®, is capped by the classic A1 flash hider, with ports around its radius, and is retained by a proper split washer. The flash hider is attached to a lightweight 20 inch barrel, found on AR-15 variants through the M16A1.

Available with a 1-12 or 1-7 twist. Select 1-12 if shooting 55gr bullets, and 1-7 if shooting 62gr or heavier. The front sight base is not F-marked, meaning the round, tapered front sight post is properly in line with the carry handle rear sight. The black triangle handguards closely emulate the original M16A1 handguards. A flat slip ring is at the end of the 5.56x45mm NATO barrel assembly.


Mounted to the upper is a proper ejection port cover, with a flat external "bump" (not just an off the shelf A2). The receiver is the proper M16A1 style, with a forward assist but no shell deflector. The rear sight is the standard A1 aperture, that can easily be adjusted with a cartridge or tool. Included bolt carrier group is the proper manganese phosphate mil-spec BCG, with chrome lined interior.

Seems to be a very quality built upper assembly went over it with a fine tooth comb haven't seen any defects. Haven't had a chance to shoot it yet still waiting to finish my lower assembly as soon as some parts come in . But I really like the looks and the feel of the m16a1 Clone that I am building

A Work Of Art
My BRN-16A1 complete upper arrived today. It is a thing of beauty. This is as close as I can get to owning a rifle like the first one the Air Force issued me. In my opinion this is the most attractive version of the AR-15 platform. The triangular hand guard, carry handle, and front sight make my AR-15 look like something that should be hanging in the MOMA. I can't wait to take it to the range to sight it in. Thank you Brownells for offering this beautiful, well made complete upper.

Fit and Finish
Very well made. Looks as described. Only issues are the rear sight is plastic and not metal. The take down and pivot lugs were a few thousands to wide to fit an Anderson lower receiver. A fine jewelers file fixed that. For looks and purpose I would recommend ordering this item.
