No markings
Received upper, only thing that tells me it is a Colt part is the sticker on a bag. No Colt markings on the upper. So essentially $$$ for a standard unmarked milspec upper. If I knew there would be no markings I would have gotten something cheaper to do the same thing. I know Brownells can't control the markings, so I'm not blaming them. Just disappointed that if I were to take it out of the bag there would be no way to tell it's a Colt. Not sure what I will do with it now.
Colt FanBoy not impressed
I purchased two of these at the inflated rate brought to you by 02/2021 pandemic pricing ($211.99each). When they arrived they only had the keyhole (Cerro) forge markings...no Colt "c" markings anywhere on them. One of them looked like someone had dropped it on the shell deflector and the under-metal was showing in rough scratch marks. When mocking up my barrel to the pair, the unblemished one had loose tolerances when inserting the barrel. The tolerances are acceptable, but they were very noticeable from upper to upper, which seemed odd. Overall review, I would not purchase again, I have had better results from PSA uppers...and I'm a Colt fanboy.
Nice upper, no Cage or Colt Markings
Wanted to get another Colt upper receiver as a spare. These came back in stock and it arrived, looks nice through the bag (which is the only proof it's Colt, so it's still sealed). Has the dry lube inside, Keyhole forge mark, which T marks on top, but no Cage or C marking anywhere. Looks exactly like the upper on my Brownells Colt 6960 CCU upper (although that had a Square forge mark), which also arrived without the Colt Cage or other identifying marks. I'm going to keep it since I'm sure Colt is rushing things out the door, but I was hopefully it would have the Cage mark to prove it's a Colt in the future. Hard to recommend it for the price. I hate complaining about sometime so petty but when they charge that price, you kind of expect it.
New? Or Perhaps Seconds?
First off, the good- Ordered on Sunday night and received it by Wednesday afternoon, standard shipping...wow! The packaging was outstanding and very well cushioned. Now the bad- Had several nicks and on side of the picatinny rail, sides and bottom of pivot pin hole. Sadly, the threads also had minor nicks so I hope it won't affect the barrel instal. Don't know much about building an AR but from what I've read these are suppose to be the best receivers so I am going to proceed with what I have.
Take your chances on the finish
I spent the extra to keep it all "Colt". My receiver arrived and it look as if it had been sitting in a parts bin unprotected. The finish does not even come close to matching my Colt lower. Those that got a brand new one consider yourself lucky. I have always recieved high quality parts from Brownells and I'm disappointed in this item.
New/used
I received mine and although it didn't have any wear marks inside, it did have a few spots on the rail that were nicked. The finish didn't match my lower (photo), so I would say it was refurbished (at least mine was). If you were building a safe queen this might be a issue. Since I use mine almost daily it wasn't a factor.
