AR-15/M16 RECEIVER TAPS & DIES

AR-15/M16 RECEIVER TAPS & DIES Reviews & Ratings

The Brownells AR-15/M16 Receiver Taps & Dies are made from a high-speed steel that easily chase and clean up the two most important threads on the AR-15/M16 receivers. The 1-3/16"-16 TPI corrects out of spec or cross-threaded upper receivers and barrel nuts. The 1-3/16"-16 TPI makes the receiver extension tube and lower receiver threads uniform for easier installation.

Bought the tap and the die.
I bought the tap and the die for the buffer tube. It worked perfectly. Both tap and die were very sharp and well made. Used some Rigid thread cutting oil and it made quick work of the aluminum. It's tool steel so oil it good before storage.

Exactly what I needed.
I inherited a late 1970's era Colt AR-15 SP1 that had a cross-threaded buffer tube and the receiver was also cross-threaded. This fixed it right up! Took less than 15 minutes and now it's 100% functional again.
Would you recommend this? Yes, I would recommend to a friend

works great
It's better to chase the threads on a 80% reciever than to fight mounting buffer tube possibly buggering up the threads I have used on 3 lowers that needed them chased

Worked great
Worked great to fix two 80% lowers that had the threads for the buffer tube cut too shallow so nothing could screw into the lowers.

Carbon Steel Die
Thank you for expediting the order. It actually arrived early. I received the die and was pleased with the overall appearance. I do alot of machining and I was hoping it was American steel. But it says China on it. It is very heavy and dense and seems to be of quality. We will see how long it lasts. I will thread a piece of stainless steel with it. If it makes it through that then it should do aluminum just fine. Hoping that in the future we see more American made products. Thanks again. I will happily update this post as soon as I can with further information.
