Best way-create free float & keep stock.
Great system but you will need the tools that fit. I just wish I could find the A1 type handguard for this tube. Not the tube's fault though. Altho' I will probably have to get with Rock River for my next request, as I would love to find this tube system in intermediate length. That would be great!! It really does a super job in creating the 'free floating' tube system; yet preserving the 'classic handguard' appearance & keeping pressure off of the barrel so there is no POI shift from POA. So, if you are looking to 'free float' your barrel for accuracy, yet do not like 'cheese' graters for a front handguard; this is the ticket. Best I could find without giving 200.00+ dollars.
For my cmp build
Everything needed to convert a upper with a2 full length to a free float. On a fresh build a delta ring spring and snap ring will be required. Had to get a different barrel wrench the nut is larger than standard diameter. But very satisfied. Kit is very complete. Does take some work to get everything lined up. But that is expected.
Very nice kit.
Purchased this for an older Bushmaster AR-15 with a 20" heavy barrel. Had a local gunsmith install it. Looks good and he said it was the nicest free float kit for ARs that he has seen in 30 years of working on them. Looking forward to shooting it this coming weekend. If it shoots as good as it looks, I would highly recommend it.
Great Value! Great Product!
This free float sleeve is priced better than anywhere else on the web! Dont be fooled this should be named free float sleeve KIT! It is not super clear in the description but this is the whole package, The sling mount, barrel nut, float tube, lock washer, new hand guard (injection molded i believe) Gas tube, Everything you need to do the conversion! Brownells should make that clearer but I still love them. You'll need some tools to do this #1 ACTION BLOCK! dont try to do this without the receiver PROPERLY secured. You need an armorers wrench, snap ring pliers for disassembling the delta ring, 1/16 and 1/8 punches, some loctite, and some Teflon based grease. Some guns will require that you grind off the old sling mount to make room for the new one, so you may want some form of touchup for that. Overall a pretty simple job, took me about an hour (with the right tools.)
very nice product
Ordered this on a Sunday and was at my door Wednesday, Brownells shipped fast ! The unit itself came well packaged and complete. I have no complaints at all. Much cheaper in price than other sellers.
Excellent product
I like the "stock" look of the AR-15 rails, but wanted a free floated tube for service rifle. This product delivers.
A little extra work makes it perfect!
I bought this for my latest build and was quite pleased with the quality. I am quite pleased with the ease of installation. I am also very pleased with the way it looks. However, I do want to let anyone who is wanting to use the A1 triangle hand guards know that they DO NOT fit with out a little extra work.Granted, it was not difficult. But it was about an hour and a half I would have like to known upfront that I would spend on this project. While the directions are a bit out dated, and detailed more for the A2 hand guards, they did help a bit for the modification of my repop A1 guards. After removing the heat shields from them, I had to grind quite a bit from the front end and the inside third or so to accomplish the right fit. I did take my time as not to screw it up, but it was still an honest hour and a half job. My end result was nearly factory perfect. But be cautioned that if you also want to use A1 triangle hand guards, you are going to need your Dremmel to be fully charged and a fresh sanding drum on stand by. Other wise, I am really impressed with this product and would recommend it to any one.
Looks Stock
Fairly easy to install, but the instructions are outdated. It shows how to fit YOUR handguard, which is not needed because the kit comes with one. I was a little confused for a bit till the bulb went off and I realized the instructions were not up to date. Of coarse then off to my shooting area for re-sighting in and it shot great!
Another Satisfied Customer
I bought one of these kits to use with a 22" bull barrel. I'm not a fan of free-float tubes or quad-rail setups, so I got this kit instead. Unfortunately, the sling swivel interfered with the gas block. But as mentioned above, I'm using a bull barrel. Plus I'm using an aftermarket (not A2 style) gas block. So I removed the sling swivel, and installed one in the handguards. Also, my mil-spec barrel nut wrench did not fit over the barrel nut. However, I found that the DPMS multi-tool (part number 231-000-007WB) fits both the barrel nut and the lock ring. All things considered, I'm happy to have a 'normal' looking AR-15 with a free-floated barrel.
Good, Solid Product
I just finished a DCM style build using this tube / handguard. The unit is solid and well made with clean threads and a precise fit. It does not come with Delta Ring, Weld Spring or Snap ring. Beware of using the proper loctite as I used the wrong stuff and almost had a misaligned tube that I could not break loose. Fortunately I have access to a good shop with a pipe vise and got it broke lose with no damage. You will have to cut the sling swivel mounts off the standard front sight base and refinish the cut area. I would buy the unit again. I would not attempt to install it without the recommended tools, you will need a spanner wrench and barrel nut wrench that will clear the larger barrel nut.
