No More Burnt Fingers
more than once I've burnt a finger on the gas block while using the standard length MagPul foregrip. This one should fix that little issue! It was a nice, snug fit, as it should be, on my Colt M4 carbine. Very happy with it

Better than original MOE
I had the original MOE hand guard on my smith and Wesson sport 2 rifle but it moved a bit. It was also fatter than this forearm. This one covers the bottom of the gas block A frame sight. It gives better hand placement for me. Only negative is. I had to remove my a frame mounted picatinny rail that I used for my flashlight. If you don’t use that you won’t have any issues. I can mount the flashlight to the forearm with keymod rails. But for now I have just left it off to make the gun lighter.

EXCELLENT FIRST USE !
Very nice for someone who does not want or need more than a few attachments on there handguard and, at less than $40, it's a steal over the usual tactical style for-ends and perfect for me. Very slim at a 1-7/8" width. It mounts on a standard carbine length ring and sight and is 3" longer than the standard 6" carbine handguard at 8-7/8". The rear covers the top and bottom of the delta ring and the for-end covers the sling swivel (which must be removed). Photo attached. Fit is "Tight" and took some persuasion to seat so there is absolutely NO play and it still is easily removed if needed.
Huge improvement!
I got this to replace the original round handguard on my Ruger AR-556. It's much more comfortable for me, and I like that it blocks my hand from touching the gas black (still nursing the burn from that). The only con for me is that it precludes using a QD swivel under the front sight, but I can certainly live with that.
Huge upgrade, really feels tight, slim
Take a minute or two to watch any of the install videos out there - because these 2 pieces click together TIGHT. The first thing I noticed was how much more hand room there was underneath - compared to a GI hand-guard it is a huge upgrade. (Disclosure: I've got really long arms) I bought the MLOK shorty vfg (also locks in tight) and FL mount and I'm able to get a really comfortable, compact, thumb brake grip with them. I'd given up hope of doing that with the original squishy grips (which feel tiny now). The SL hand-guard covers up a good bit of the FSB already ,but I've got long thumbs too and camping my thumb out along the top of the light mount is just going to be thumb-heaven.

Great product here. Really a nice step up from the ugly, shiny, no heat shield, handguard that came on my rifle. Nice fitting well made little piece. I like everything about this purchase.
Making the Most of your Drop-In
Correcting what I consider to be all of the major flaws of its predecessor - and for that matter of drop-ins in general - the MOE SL is probably the most versatile polymer drop-in on the market. For starters, a slim profile allows for a good wrap-around grip, while the ribs along the bottom improve traction. But the biggest external differences are the extended zones both front and back. By recessing the forward mount, the front extension protrudes a good few inches from where the older guard would have ended, giving your hand more space to operate and protecting it from accidental contact with the gas block or barrel. Meanwhile, the small rear wings create a bridge across the around the delta ring, creating a consistent gripping surface between the guard and the lower receiver. Yet the most important feature of the SL is its tighter fit. Users of the old MOE, as well as of other drop-ins, will notice bumps, creaks, and other noises from their forends as the parts all take advantage of the looseness in their interfaces. The SL is designed to mount much tighter on the rifle, while its respective halves mate up very neatly, and this severely reduces incidental noise. Furthermore, there is noticeably less wobble when aiming, further enhancing performance over the older design. Installation is trickier on account of this tight fit, but due to the MLOK mounts, you'll only have to do this once. Accessory mounting (obviously, then) comes courtesy of the MLOK system, which improves upon MOE both by allowing accessories to be changed without removing the handguard and by spacing the mounting screws so that accessories can be positioned between the slots as well as within them, adding more spacing options. Positioning the locknuts to the exact height needed to turn and clamp them properly gets very tricky, and even with a bore light, visual verification of their status can be difficult depending on their location. A relative dearth of direct-mount accessories doesn't help either, but MLOK is ultimately what makes possible the tight fit, so I for one am happy to accept it. At the end of the day, if you're not willing or able to put in the time, effort, and/or cash to install a good free-float design, then you simply can't do better than the SL.
MUCH NICER
I really like the looks and feel of this hand guard. I purchased and installed two of these. Bring some patience with you when you install these, it's a pain. I think it was easier if the bottom was installed first. I found a block of wood made it easier to push the delta ring down with the tight fit. I had to remove the sling swivels for it to fit. If you have a GG&G QD sling swivel with rail on your A2 front sight, you will have to trim the hand guard to fit. If you have smaller hands, this is perfect, but even if you have larger hands this is much more comfortable than the standard Magpul hand guard. The wife really likes it on her AR.
