Customer Expectations

Many reviewers conveyed that they expected a higher standard from Brownells, a well-known brand in the firearms community. They emphasized that tools should not require alterations upon purchase, indicating a gap between customer expectations and actual product performance.
Good. Not great.
I have no complaints about the upper block, but the lower block is another matter. The lower was such a tight fit that it was stuck in my lower until I pounded it out with someone else holding the lower. Upon inspection I could see exactly where it was too tight and lightly filed it down. Now it fits as it should. Insert it just a little at first and if it is tight, don't put it in the rest of the way until you have filed the sides a little. It is a plastic part so I don't expect high precision, but it takes nothing to do a simple fitment check before sending it out.
Doesn't really fit
I had to do a lot of sanding with a palm sander and scraping with a rasp to actually get it to fit in the magazine well. Once I got it shaved down a bit it works fine but it did take some effort to get it there.
The jury is still out
I ordered to enable my first AR-15 customization, replacing the end plate to accommodate a single point sling with my DPMS carbine. I discovered that, for my weapon, the vice block was too large and did not fully fit in the magazine well of the lower receiver, neither from underneath, nor from above. The vice block inserted at most 40% into the magazine well. I persisted, very carefully, and finally achieved the result. But unless I have a different weapon, or an urgent repair to make, I will not use this tool again.
Solid, but needs fitting
Solid and well-made but requires filing to fit. The description on the website mentions this, but the instruction sheet included does not mention this; it should. It would also be good to have a direction indicator, but the diagram in the instruction sheet is pretty clear.
Lower block is too tight!
The upper block works great on both my Sig 556 upper and my fiances DPMS Oracle upper but the lower magazine block is too large for both of our lowers.. Can hardly get in in there and I do not want to risk pounding it in and causing too much stress on the magazine well. I know it is meant to hold it down but this seems almost too tight.. I would suggest only getting the upper block and finding a lower block elsewhere.
Just like the reviews said
Just received this today, the upper action block is fine as well as the internal support, however the lower vice block is a very tight fit in to the mag well. I will trim it down some. That being said, the price for the set is great considering each piece individually costs about as much as the set.
Needed modification
Would give it 4 stars, but...I had to take a file to it to reduce it in size to get it to fit in the magazine well. It was too thick. Tried it in 3 lowers and it was too large in all. Once fitted, it works great.
It works, with some modification
I ordered this product to use for building a Stag Arms lower receiver. I had to spend about 30 minutes with a Dremel tool and sandpaper to remove enough material for it to fit within my lower mag well. I used calipers to measure the block and compare it to the dimensions of a real magazine, and the block was about .02" too thick. Just enough so that it wouldn't fit inside the mag well. I definitely didn't want to "force" it to fit. Now it fits snugly and securely. The product works well, but coming from Brownells I would've expected a little better quality, which is why I only gave it three stars. This is just a molded piece of heavy plastic, and the mold is apparently slightly too large.
Ehhhhh
Well I havent checked the upper block yet cus I dont want to take off my EOTECH, but the magwell block does not fit on my Rock River Arms lower. I will most likely have to take the grinder to it and get it down to a slimmer size. Does not fit front to back but clears ok side to side. I dont know what model lower they used to make these but I cant believe how off it is.
Make it to fit spec receivers!!!
It's a solid piece, but I'm going to have to do the standard sanding. They should sell it either at spec sizes or undersized and include shims of different sizes.
