FLASH SUPPRESSOR TAP FOR AR-15/M16 & AR-308 Reviews & Ratings
a must for quality gunsmithing
I thread barrels for suppressors and this product is a must for quality workmanship. I've been using the same tap now in over 50 applications and is still going strong with not a single flaw. I can't say not one thing bad about this tap. For all you gunsmiths that thread barrels, you cannot go wrong!
It works, but isn't a true bottom tap
I use this tap to make thread protector caps for threaded barrels and it works, but I have to make the cap longer due to the tapered part of the tap. Not a huge problem, but I was expecting a true bottom tap. Bottom line; yes I would recommend it for its quality, but know that it is NOT a bottom tap.
Not a bottoming tap
As this product is billed specifically as an AR-15/M16 flash suppressor tap, it should be a bottoming tap that has full threads almost down to the very end of the tap in order to cut threads right down to the shoulder of the flash suppressor. This tap is a plug tap, with the last few threads being tapered. I bought this tap to clean up damaged threads in an existing GI surplus flash hider, but it couldn't clean up the bottom-most threads because of the taper. As a tap for cutting new threads it would be fine, but would need to be followed up with a true bottoming tap for this application.
