AR-15/M16 DISSIPATOR BARRELS 16" 5.56 1-8

AR-15/M16 DISSIPATOR BARRELS 16" 5.56 1-8 Reviews & Ratings

AR-15/M16 DISSIPATOR BARREL 16" 5.56 1-8

Dissipator style barrel, rifle length gas system paired with 16 inch length.

The rifle length gas system on this 16 inch 223 Wylde chambered barrel allows for a soft shooting configuration and fine tuning to your rifle build. With the longer gas system, the bolt has additional time for pressure to subside, making for a smoother unlocking and less wear on the bolt. The gas port is sized to ensure reliable function when unsuppressed, the same as the original Brownells BRN-605. The .625 gas block journal is 1.9 inches long to accomodate a variety of gas block types, including .625 GI style front sight bases.

Ballistic Advantage is manufacturing these to Brownell’s specifications and quality standards, ensuring you get the best barrel possible. Barrel exteriors are coated with the standard phosphate finish, which provides an excellent matte finish, and retains oil extremely well. The most important aspect of the barrel, the bore and chamber, are hard chromed, to prevent corrosion, ease cleaning and prevent long term wear. The button rifled barrels, profiled from 4150 Chrome Moly Vanadium steel, feature a 223 Wylde chamber, that allows them to accommodate 223 Remington and 5.56x45mm NATO ammunition equally well. The 1-8 twist will handle commonly available Full Metal Jacket 55gr loads, all the way up to heavier, premium 77gr bullets. All of these Lightweight Barrels have a .625 gas block journal to correspond with the overall slim profile, preventing your Carbine from becoming front heavy. ½-28 muzzle threads accept common muzzle devices and the M4 feedramps at the opposite end interface perfectly with M4 feedramps in your upper receiver.

Have confidence in the Brownells Lightweight Carbine Barrels, backed by our original purchaser lifetime guarantee!

A great barrel.
Well made, and a great value, especially the barrel assy. I will remove the bayonet lug for a more authentic repro Model 605. Brownells does it again.
Would you recommend this? Yes, I would recommend to a friend

Good Barrel for Great Price
I purchased this barrel early in 2024 and was excited to try it out as soon as I got it. A .223 wylde chamber with 1:8 twist and chrome lining in a true dissy barrel sounded almost too good to be true, but it is definitely real. Once I installed this barrel on a test upper, it functioned flawlessly. Accuracy is better than what I can do with iron sights, and there were no issues with cycling whatsoever. It is gassed perfectly without a suppressor, and the recoil impulse is pleasant. This is definitely a barrel I will be keeping in my collection.

One of the softest shooting ar barrels on the market
Overall very impressed with this barrel. The chrome lining looks extremely well done, the weight is comparable and even lighter than some of the carbon fiber barrels for sale and on top of that the rifle has system on a 16 inch barrel shoots extremely soft and has a great recoil impulse. The gas port size is plenty big enough for reliable function and paired with a good adjustable gas block the setup is unbeatable. Highly recommended all the way around!

Barrel good, FSB meh…
The barrel looks great. Chrome lining is well done and everything seems to be as excepted. The FSB however is a little janky. Just as another reviewer mentioned the guard “wings” on either side of the front post don’t match well. The one of the right is nearly double thickness of the left. Not an issue that will affect accuracy, but defintely lowers the visual appeal and aesthetics. Do a little better QC on the forged parts Brownells. I’m probably gonna order another FSB from somebody else, cuz I can’t live with this.

Front sight leafs uneven
When they made the cut out for the front sight base it was off and the leaves are uneven the one on the right is twice as thick.

FSB OUT OF SPEC
I have no idea if the barrel is any good, but the FSB is badly out of spec. The protective wings on either side are different thicknesses, and I thought it was only a cosmetic blemish, but it’s so bad that the front sight post cannot even be adjusted because no adjustment tool will even fit between the guards. I wish I had known this before assembling and painting the entire rifle. Now I have a rifle I cannot even zero. I’m beyond infuriated

Crooked sight base
The front sight base is pinned on crooked to the left, the rifle can’t even be sighted in at 25 yards. Rear sight bottoms out on the left. Not sure why no firearm manufacturer can do this correctly.
