Right tool for the job
Purchased this roll pin hand press for installing / removing AR type mil spec trigger guards to avoid the dreaded hammer and punch method normally employed for this task. In short, looked over the included directions twice, mocked up the process once, lubed the threads on the press with light oil as suggested in other reviews and gave it a go. Installed the trigger guards detent pin, used the pilot guide pin included with the press and inserted a lightly greased roll pin into the pin hole, started the roll pin with a roll pin holder punch and finished the job with the press easy peasy and no issues. Very smooth and easy procedure if you think it through for a minute before using. Also, pro tip, cover the non-drive side of the press with painters tape or similar to keep from marring the lower receiver and poke a hole through the tape to allow the pilot guide pin to escape as the roll pin is pressed into the trigger guard.
Should have bought one to begin with
One of the best AR tools i have. After building many ARs I always dreaded pounding in the trigger guard pin. This tool made it a piece of cake. I couldnt believe how easy it was.
Makes it so much easier
After trying to drive a pin into it the old fashioned way I gave up and ordered this pin pusher. It made it a lot easier and ensured I didn't mar the finish on the receiver. Yes it's pricey but I intend to assemble a few of these so it will be worth it.
Works Perfect... but...
This tool works perfectly as advertised. The only advice is would add is use some masking tape to protect the finish of your lower. Mine took very slight abrasions which is no big deal to me but others might not appreciate it. Great product.
No reason to fear installing pin
The thought of hammering a pin that is larger than the hole into that hole was daunting. I'd read in my manual that it was common to break a lower with this step. After spending the time to mill the lower I didn't want to mess up. This tool makes its so easy. It is pricey for such limited use but I needed to assemble several lowers so the peace of mind was worth it.
Should have bought one years ago.
Makes installation of the trigger guard roll pin easy without the fear of breaking the tabs off your lower.
A must have for builders
I was a little bit put off by the price but quickly learned that it was well worth it after using it to install several different trigger guards without issue. The tool is very simple and easy to use and I would highly recommend it to anybody looking to swap or install trigger guards.
Works great
This tool works very well. It eliminates the possibility of breaking a trigger guard tab. The pins are smoothly pushed in; haven't used it to remove a guard yet. The only advice I have is place masking tape on the metal tool where the tool will contact the receiver. This will prevent scratching the receiver with the tool. Read the directions thoroughly before using. There is probably a video?
