Every AR shooter should have this handy tool! The Brownells AR-15 / AR-308 Takedown Pin Removal Tool makes it easy to coax the takedown and pivot pins out of your rifle so you can separate the upper and lower receiver assemblies for cleaning or maintenance. Unlike a traditional steel pin punch, the polymer tip of this tool will not scratch or damage the ends of the pivot and takedown pins or the receiver itself, if you should slip. Yes, it does work on both pins - we called it the "Takedown Pin Removal Tool" to keep the name manageable!

This little tool is actually multiple tools in one. Remove the punch tip and flip it around, and you have a second tool for depressing the magazine release button to aid in magazine catch installation. Remove the tip completely to reveal a stainless steel pin punch for pushing out your AR's hammer and trigger pins or even for Glock® pistol disassembly.

Since the entire tool is about the size of a house key, we put a keyring loop on it, so you can put it on your key ring and always have it with you when you need it.

AR-13 Takedown Pin Tool
This tool works well to push in the takedown pins of AR-15 or AR-10 style rifles. The lower section of the tool easily detaches to expose a metal pin which may be useful in the disassembly of other parts of an AR-15 or AR-10, but using it to move the takedown pins will probably scratch or damage the takedown pins. I suggest leaving the lower section of the tool attached to remove takedown pins. The lower section remains in place on the upper section of the tool by using a small magnet, but it is not exceptionally strong, which might cause the loss of the lower section in some cases. I rated the tool at four stars because of this.

weak magnet
Tool works as stated. I would like to see the thumb pad a bit larger and the magnet somewhat stronger as it is the key ring gets in the way when using it to push out pivot pins and the cover piece keeps falling off the smaller pin. Jim

Cool Idea
While a great product idea that you can keep with you all the time, the magnets that holds the cap on are SERIOUSLY under powered. There isn't a lot of room to put a larger magnet, but the design needs improved big time. Maybe try slightly larger magnets or add another set on the other side of the tool. Right now, you WILL loose the cap if you keep this any place other than the bench or in a tool bag.

OK, but a missed opportunity
I really hope Brownell's reads these reviews... this item is a good start but a missed opportunity more than anything. First thing, as it turns out, the tool can be used as a magazine release assembly install tool. So why doesn't it say that in the product ad? On that note, what ever happened to the Brownell's magazine push tool? Those things are worth their weight in gold because nobody else makes them. That being said, this item would work better if the pin were attached to the other piece to allow for the large piece to be used for the magazine assembly. The magnet is way too weak anyway and fails to keep the pieces together. It will come apart in your pocket or when stored in your gear. It works great to punch your takedown/pivot pins (which is the primary purpose) but oh wow it could be so much better. This item is in desperate need for a 2.0 redesign or at least bring back your magazine release tool. Thank you, Brownell's.... A for Effort
