The KNS Precision AR-15 Perma Firing Pin Retainer was inspired by the design of the retaining pin found in the original AR-15 prototype developed by Eugene Stoner. The pin retainer ensures that the firing pin remains secured into place and works with any standard AR-15 bolt-carrier group. The pin retainer is made from heat-treated steel, which provides flexibility and strength. The pin cannot be used on .308 bolt-carrier groups.

Retainer

This makes replacing the firing pin retainer easy.

Better than OEM

I used this Retainer on 6.5, 5.56, and .308 BCGs. Much easier to use than the cotter pin

The Perma Pin Is THE Way To Go

I was looking for something that replaces the standard cotter pin firing pin retaining pin because the cotter pin looks like it will wear out fairly quickly and, oh, yes, the Perma Pin is just the thing, the perfect thing, the long-lasting solution! Maybe that's why they call it the Perma Pin. It should last for a very long time. The Perma Pin is not the easiest thing to get in the hole. You have to play with it for a while to get it inserted in its proper location. KNS recommends working the Perma Pin in and out a few times just by itself with all of the other bolt carrier group parts removed, then assemble the bolt with all of the parts and insert the Perma Pin. On a scale of one to five, Perma Pin is probably a ten-star product. Yes, I recommend it. I think it is the best.

Didn't Work for Me

Did not fit my bolt carrier, as my opening for the firing pin retaining pin is more U-shaped, as opposed to the traditional round opening (see pic). This caused the lip of the Perma Pin head to catch on the edge of the opening before it could be fully seated. Tried it on a second bolt carrier, and it did not want to go through the far side. We could probably file it down a bit to make it work, but did not do that yet. Throwing it in the spare parts box for now, as it isn't worth the hassle of sending it back for $10. Great idea, and apparently similar to the original Stoner design, but did not work for me.

I agree a good idea if it worked!

If it fit into the opposite side of the BCG when inserted it would be great but it does not. One of the split ends broke off trying to push it into place. At least if a standard retainer breaks it is a 2 buck loss. This is $10. Only gave it two stars because whoever designed it if they had just tweaked the design a bit it would have been 5. As is do not waste your money buy 5 of the regular ones.

Waste of money

Bought this thinking it would be an upgrade but after being in my rifle and not shooting for a couple months I when to clean it again before a range day and the pin just fell out glad I didn't take it out before reinspecting it

A good idea poorly executed?

Tried to use this in my Stag. It did not seem to align correctly and could not be installed without the use of tools which is NOT recommended in the instruction. My concern is if it is that difficult to install what happens when disassembly is needed again. The item has been returned to Brownell's.

Good Idea but difficult to install

I had seen them on the HK so I purchased (5 ) took me over 15 minutes to install the first one. The next one I broke. You need a tool or small block of wood or plastic hammer to push them in/out very stiff. Returning the other 3. Sorry guys you need to polish the split ends better. I hope you all work out the issue.
