AR-15 MODERN SERIES BARRELS 5.56MM

AR-15 MODERN SERIES BARRELS 5.56MM Reviews & Ratings

Ballistic Advantage AR-15 barrels come in a great variety of chamberings, lengths, and contours, so you are certain to find the exact barrel you need for any type of rifle you are building or upgrading. These barrels are precision machined from extra-strong 4150 chrome-moly-vanadium steel alloy and have a nickel-boron coated barrel extension with M4 feed ramps to help ensure reliable feeding and extraction. The Government, M4, and SPR, and DMR profiles are all well-known among AR-15 aficionados. All barrels are chambered in 5.56 NATO, so they accept both military-type 5.56x45mm and civilian .223 Remington ammo. The DRP (Distinct Rigid Profile) is a stocky profile designed for short pistol / SBR barrels. On their longer AR-15 barrels, the Ballistic Advantage folks eliminated sharp shoulders and smoothed the tapers to symmetrically limit barrel "whip" caused by vibrations and flexing during prolonged shooting. This also controls barrel harmonics, so the barrel returns quickly to its "home" position after each shot - highly beneficial for follow up shots at a high rate of fire or even full-auto fire.

  • Variety of lengths & contours to choose from
  • Tough black QPQ finish
  • All NFA rules apply to sub-16" length barrels

The AR-15 platform - in rifle, pistol, carbine, or SBR form - is capable of extremely good accuracy. To enjoy that full potential on your next AR build, you deserve an Advantage.

Great barrel, price and Brownell's service.
I bought this along with the Hanson profile on the same order. Both are 16" midlength gas systems. With a coupon and price drop I couldn't resist. I had read a lot of comments and articles on how the goverment profiles are inferior to all the improved designs so I wasn't expecting much. When I received the barrels and inspected them they booth looke great and the headspace on the this goverment profile checked out tighter than the Hanson with booth being in spec. One inch and under groups at 100 yds with a 8 power LPVO Sig scope and 55 grain V-Max handload out of the Goverment profile proved everything you read just ain't so. Makes for a nice weight Coyote rig that was successful on the first one I got a shot at. The Hanson profile barrel is still a work in process as 1 1/2" groups are about as good as it is getting and I am working on some load development and muzzle devices. To my surprise a goverment profile, 1 in 7 twist and no 11 degree crown shoot 55 grains just fine. (Barrels are all differant but I have found Brownells service to be great and consistant, which is rarely seen in todays business enviroment. They have been great to deal with and I am confident to buy from them)

Can’t be that awesome
Sensational fitment with perfect head spacing for both .223 and 5.56 nato.

Good quality barrel for the price
I have the 13.7” with a SOLGW Nox pin and welded which is just over the 16” length requirement. The barrel works flawlessly and I shoot this pretty often with no issues. I’ve used 55gr mil surp ammo to 77gr Mk262 and all hold decent groups. Only reason I say decent is because I run a red dot and magnifier, but I have been able to ding steel +400 yards consistently.

Good barrel
I bought this for my first AR build. It seems to be a pretty standard barrel, heavier than I expected but definitely solid. The only issue I had installing it is the gas block was an extremely tight fit. I made sure I got the right size gas block, both on the invoice and on the packaging, and it was the right size. I had to use a small hammer and a block of wood to seat the block the last inch or two because it was so tight. Maybe the gas block or the barrel I got were slightly out of spec? Either way, it went together and it's working, so it turned out alright.

Great performance at a great price!
This Past summer I decided I wanted to build an AR pistol but I wasn't sure what barrel i was going to use. After looking at all my available options I decided to go with ballistic advantages 12.5 modern series barrel. (Disclaimer- I'm not sure if this matters but I'll add that I did not purchase from the barrel from Brownells as they (and most other retailers) did not have any in stock at the time of my purchase but I did try to purchase from Brownells first) I had never owned or had any experience with any of BA's barrels but I was aware they have a solid reputation for quality and reliability so I wanted to give them a shot. It been 4-5 months and roughly 800 - 1,000 rounds down range since I completed that 12.5 build and I am very happy I went with ballistic advantage. Its exceeded all my fairly high expectations with quality and accuracy. I do have to mention that I'm not a bench rest or precision shooter that shoots sub moa groups or anything so I cant give you a precise measurement of its accuracy but BA has a sub MOA guarantee on this barrel and I'm sure that's and accurate statement. With my mediocre shooting ability and a decent red dot and/or plain irons it hits the target very consistently out to 100-150 yards. I cant speak to out beyond 150ish because that's the maximum distance available to me where I shoot at but I'm more than confident it would not have any issues at all reaching out well beyond that distance to anyone concerned about that. I am a big fan of BA now and if/when I ever need another barrel they will be at the top of the list. I highly recommend giving their products a look if your in the market for a new barrel.

A pretty stout, well made barrel.
The 7.5" pistol barrel that I have is well made and has a really nice finish, for the most part. It was all sealed up in a bag and protected in tactical bubble wrap. This is sort of a con: Upon being freed from it's cocoon of safety I immediately notice two spots on the end of the barrel extension that had surface rust. I grabbed my bore scope and found a few places along the chamber and bore that also had surface rust. I ran a brush through a few times and the rust seemed to be gone when rechecked. At the barrel extension I will need to touch-up the two spots mentioned above. Four stars for that reason. The pictures shown here were taken with a potato before I cleaned the barrel.

Solid barrel
I got the 14.5 inch first impressions seems like a solid barrel. It is going to be interesting comparing the two different barrels and companies testing accuracy. Anyhow, one thing I will point out, it is NOT dimpled for the gas block screws to seat into for easy construction. At least the barrel I received doesn’t have the dimple, not a big deal, but hey what is life without some challenges to conquer along the way. Heard a bunch of YouTubers using this company for barrels so had to check them out, and of course with flannel daddy’s recommendation, had to check the amazing Brownells website and they had a sweet deal I couldn’t pass up on it. Not to mention shipping was on point. 3 stars so far for not using it yet (wont speak on the unknown) as I’m sure flannel daddy never lets any of us down, the quality in the shooting will be as reliable as drinking water and taking advil.
