AR-15 LOWER RECEIVER BUFFER TUBE VISE FIXTURE

Keep your buffer tube straight while tightening your castle nut.

Here at Brownells, we know how hard it is when tightening the lower receiver castle nut to keep the buffer tube from rotating during building or maintenance of an AR-15 platform. That is why we have developed the AR-15 Lower Receiver Extension Vise Fixture. Made from anodized aluminum, place the fixture in your favorite vice, like the Brownells Bench Vise, and tighten it down. Insert the lower onto the fixture with the buffer tube through the sliding tube support. Move the sliding tube support toward the receiver leaving enough room for an armorer’s wrench. Adjust the support for mil-spec and commercial tubes simply by using an adjustment screw on top of the sliding tube support. Once adjusted and tightened, ensure your buffer is aligned and set your castle nut with confidence to the proper torque specifications.

Tube alignment
Tool is made nicely. Think it has maybe a little give when torque is applied. But I have only used it once.

Good Jig But Not Great
This is a well machined and priced lower/buffer tube jig. I have a buffer tube vise block which works surprisingly well and the blue NCStar which has worked but is cheaply made and took some tinkering to get it right. So when i saw this at that price I figured why not get something better. Well it works but it needs a little more refinement and should be mads strictly for milspec buffer tubes not both. Grips lower tight and doesn't move and even tightening down the back collar is good but issue is with the buffer piece that slides into keyway slot. Its just a little loose and does have a small amount of play left & right. I fixed this by using frictionless tape and wrapped it around acouple different spots and that mads this jig super tight with no movement. They also need to shorten the buffer piece ao when you tighten it down it pulls it up against the top of keyway instead of leaving it suspended 3mm below the top. If they would refine this some more and take the slop out Id have no doubt this would be the #1 jig in this category.

Good Lower/Buffer Vise Block
First off this is a way better option then having to spend hundreds of $ for basically the same jig. There are other options under the $70 price point that function just as good as this one. The build quality is excellent compared to popular NCStar jig. The issue with this is they made it to work with both commercial and milspec buffer tubes when it should be made for just Milspec. The reason i say that is because theres just a little too much side to side slop which I fixed by wrapping frictionless tape around a couple spots. By adding the tape to certain areas its greatly removed all side to side play. The price and quality isn’t bad but like all the cheaper blocks like this they all need to be modified to work perfectly. This is almost there but not quite. If they would redesign a few spots to be much tighter I would have no doubt that this would be the #1 seller.
