Best Looking Magazine Lock
Easy to install with a clamp and hand drill. Take your time and don't rush. It doesn't leave an overly large mag release button.
Conversion kit install
I installed the kit today after watching the Brownells install video and reading the accompanying instructions numerous times. It works. I ordered an AR Maglock rear King Pin to make changing mags easier. I did have to go shopping to buy a tap and die, clamp and pipe cleaners.
Excellent, and you can make it better
Combined with a JT rear pin and an accu wedge it's nearly perfect. The accu wedge works like a spring to separate the receiver halves, and if you shorten the button locking pin a bit, you can release mags with the bolt back. It's as close as you can come to living in real America.
Take your time! VERY EASY!
Having purchased a new Springfield Armory Saint Victor in 5.56 you can imagine an occasional shooter really has no business drilling into a lower receiver... but after looking at the install video, all other videos on social media I didnt think this would be something i couldn't do. I didnt have a vise, and that didnt slow me down one bit. Held in one hand drilled with the other. If you have ever drilled a hole, used a cordless drill for drywall YOU ARE OK with this. The scariest part for me was taking apart the new rifle.

works good, just read the instructions and watch the video. take it easy and you should have no problem. If you get a jam popping the front pin will allow the mag button to work
My Favorite Solution
Easy to install and very economical if you have more than one rifle. The only drawback is the drill bit with the e-clip is proprietary, but could be replaced with a drill bit and a stop collar. I used 3in1 oil for drilling and tapping. I did this on a new bare receiver and would probably remove the trigger and safety to make cleanup of the chips easier. I am also going to use some proper tapping fluid to see if cleanup is easier. I hope Hogue will produce an DPMS 308 platform jig.
Make yor AR CA legal
I've used this kit on 3 AR 15 lowers so far. It disables the bullet button or mag release until you pull the rear takedown pin and hinge up the upper slightly- a half inch or less- then you can release the mag in the normal way. The device can be removed with tools easily to return the rifle to its previous state. It takes time and patience and some smithing skills, so if you are not comfortable or do not have the skills to drill and tap holes with accuracy, let your local gunsmith do this. I broke the drill with the c-clip, but Hogue sent me a replacement, no problem. Brownells offered to replace the whole kit, but Hogue was faster. If you live in CA, this may be the solution you're looking for. The kit is durable, works on all my mil-spec lowers, including polymer, and has everything you need except the tap.

this is the best thing I've seen for making my rifles California compliant! the best part is that it's easy to change back when I go shooting out of state and it is a bargain to be able to do three rifles with the parts supplied in the kit.
