AR-15 CARBINE HANDGUARD Reviews & Ratings

I bought this to replace the OEM Ruger handguard for my AR 556. The factory handguards do not have heat shields but the Brownells guards have both upper and lower metal heat shields. They installed easily, look and feel great. Like the factory handguards, you can get a secure grip plus the build of these Brownells guards seem a little more robust than the factory set. I really like these old school handguards. They reminded me of the M16A2 handguards I used in the military, though these are carbine not rifle length. Some people have reported how they appear chalky or ashy. They don't have the same finish as the factory handguards, and do appear slightly ashy but not to the point of looking awkward or out of place. In my opinion they're a classy upgrade over the Ruger handguards. I would recommend them to anyone looking for the OG style with double heat shields.

This is the best reproduction of the classic “skinny” Handguards. If you’re looking for that retro look, this is it. I bought x3 sets for the price you can’t beat it. As far as fit, that’s dependent on Mil-Spec vs what’s on the market so slight mods may be in order. No problem with milspec upper assemblies.

Not fit, pitched it

Let me preface this review by saying that I have years of QA/QC (USAF munitions inspector and Honda of America) and machining experience: Basically it doesn't fit properly. The area of the handguard where the two halves interface with the delta ring and handguard cap are so far out of spec that it will not seat properly. I do not recommend this handguard unless you are comfortable hand fitting it. I'd send it back but I've already started modifying the one I have. I'm highly and thoroughly disappointed.

These hand guards are very poor quality. They are out-of-specification. The set I received were too large in diameter to fit the front handguard hanger on my Colt Commando 11.5 inch barrel factory upper. I returned them.
