This is a spare for on a bolt carrier I only use for completing upper builds. But it's also my ready spare because it's much higher quality than I needed!
Excellent Nitrided Part
If you're looking for a nitrided key, then this one is good to go. It is not chrome-lined. Given that it is nitrided, it will definitely gall that bolts that your staking fixture uses so be prepared for that. My Brownells key spec'd out to 0.1815" internal diameter (which passes the 0.1820" NoGo specification). I true'd up 3 of these keys using 400 grit and am happy to report that all 3 of them were already pretty darn close to perfect already. Make sure to clean the mating surfaces with brake cleaner and then use Loctite 620 on the mating surface. Definitely use new bolts with a little bit of red loctite (preferably OCKS bolts) torqued to 58 in-lbs and stake them with a good tool (M-Guns or Brownells).
These are NOT NOT NOT chrome lined.
I am giving these 5 stars in spite of the fact that I returned them. The Brownell's "experts" said they were chrome-lined and they are NOT. The wrong answers have now been removed. These keys were completely in spec and if you want a nitrided key they will work for you. Now if Brownell's can get some chrome-lined ones that would be nice.
Outstanding
This Brownells part is top quality, works as it should, no fitting needed. Installed without any problems. Anyone purchasing this or any brand of key for installation, it's imperative that new screws be purchased and the screws after proper torque MUST BE STAKED. If staking is overlooked the cycling of the bolt will loosen the screws causing the key to become loose and out of alignment with gas tube. NOTE. if this occurs be prepared to order the same part along with a few more.

Appears to be fine have not checked the flatness of the base with hard Arkansas stone purchased as spares.
Came in a timely manner although I believe that Brownells shipping is excessive
