You'll find yourself reaching for the Brownells Armorer's Wrench a lot when you're working on AR-15s. The standard 6-pin barrel nut wrench works on both peg-style and encapsulated barrel nuts. The "can’t slip" 4-pin castle nut wrench enables secure installation and removal of M4-carbine type receiver extensions. (NOTE: the stock must be removed so the castle nut wrench can be slid over the buffer tube to access the nut.)

There's a cutout for an A2 receiver extension nut, another cutout for a 1/2" torque drive, and slots for 5/8" and 3/4" wrench flats on flash hiders and muzzle brakes. Of course, our armorer's wrench has the last-a-lifetime quality you expect from Brownells tools: heavy-duty steel construction, precise dimensions, and a comfortable anti-slip matte finish.

Only 1 flaw

The castle nut side will work once but stock is removed (quick youtube video) but where i found the flaw was when trying to tighten down the castle nut on the magpul asap, it will not seat all the way in due to the no slip 4 pin design. I believe i will have to cut one prong off or buy another wrench if i want to use a sling there.

Castle nut wrench may not fit all castle nuts

Good robust quality piece but male engagement cogs on castle wrench slightly oversized for female castle nut on Daniel Defense pdw This caused some minor stripping in the female engagements when removing the nut

Works ok

So far this wrench is just ok, I had a spare barrel nut that looks like a standard part to me, this wrench won't fit all the pegs in the holes to tighten it down correctly. I am waiting for a new hand guard with a standard barrel nut and if the wrench works as it should on that one, I'll update my rating. I will still give 3 stars because the wrench as is, is usable, but pretty janky to tighten the nut down with only 1 peg engaged.

Not for AR Pistol Buffer Tubes

Copied this from another review, but I ran into the exact same problem (my fault for not researching better before I bought it). Unfortunately, I don't have the tools to modify the wrench. It is also a bit tight on standard rifle buffer tubes. "Well built wrench but.....You can not remove castle nuts from factory AR pistols(Radical firearms for example) with this tool because of the "fourth notch" making it impossible to slide the wrench over AR factory buffer tubes."

Needs to be re-designed

Well built wrench but.....You can not remove castle nuts from factory AR pistols(Radical firearms for example) with this tool because of the "fourth notch" making it impossible to slide the wrench over AR factory buffer tubes, which are a larger diameter.(law requires them to be a few millimeters larger diameter so regular Mil-spec or commercial butt stocks can not be slid over them...only arm braces) I had to cut off the "fourth" notch at the bottom(all the way to the handle) to make the wrench more universal. Three points of contact of the wrench to the castle nut is acceptable. Another problem with this wrench is the coating on the wrench is way to thick. I bead blasted it off and spray painted it with enamel paint. Works great now.
