"Must Have" , for a Bolt Gun shooter
This tool is very easy to use . Like the screwdriver style construction , and it does a super job of getting into the corners , to get the junk out . Just follow the instructions . The square felts did a excellent job in the corners of the bolt lug recess on my Stolle-Panda "F"-TR .308 , and my Mosin chambered "F"-Open rifle as well . I added a little of my favorite carbon remover to the first cotton roll , followed by a dry one . Works great .
Will not work on small bolt rifles.
I have not actually been able to use the tool yet. I just want to warn potential buyers that the lug recess tool will not go into bolt action rifles with a bolt smaller than about .558. If you have a bolt that is smaller you will need to order part number 749-000-729 as a replacement for the head on the tool that you will receive. The head size on this part is .550 in diameter.
Try It -- You'll Love It
Used a home-made version for years, but was always alot of work and not as efficient as I wanted. Finally purchased this one and couldn't be more pleased. It gets the job done and does it well. It's one of those tools that makes you say, "I can't believe I waited so long to get this." It's very high quality & easy to use --- just what you'd expect from Sinclair. You won't be disappointed.
Handles, big improvement over original
I purchased a new action cleaning kit a month ago as my original Sinclair action cleaning kit is boxed up in a storage facility after a move. The new handles are much improved and the quality is still as high as the originals (originals purchased at the factory store in Ft. Wayne, IN 15 years ago). I've since shown my 13 year old how cleaning the action lug area produces grease, grime, fouling and brass chips collected during a shooting session. I know now that the original will accompany my Son after he leaves our home in a few years so he can clean his own rifle actions. Terrific lifetime quality made in the midwest, well worth a few extra bucks.
Simple snd effective
It is simple basic and complete. I uwe everytime to clean out chambers and lug holes. Everytime i am surprises about THE amount of dirt i get out of them.
This Really Works!
It is amazing how much crud can get built up in your lug recesses. This tool easily removes this crud. I like the way the cotton swabs attach to the tool and think that the squared off shape does a better job in the recesses.
They work
I would suggest wetting the felts with your favorite cleaning solvent before inserting into the action , both to make them a bit more pliable and easier to insert into some actions , and to improve their cleaning capabilities . Excellent product , and well worth the price . This is the item you want for getting those corners cleaned out . Rotate the felt in both directions to get all the junk loose . Next step for me is to over-lay a wet patch on the felt , re-insert , and rotate both directions again . Followed by a "round" , to clean up . My only complaint of this product is they only come in a 5-pack . Package them in 10 or 15 pack , to save some shipping cost and your order processing time .
Brass handle insert rotates
I noted right off when cleaning R700, AR-15 and AR-10 Chambers | Lug Recesses that the brass insert rotated within the plastic handle which mitigated the usefulness of the tool. I drilled both handles for 1/8" dia roll pins such that the diameter of the pins passed through the brass insert with full purchase. Less than adequate torque transmission problem solved.
Cleaning Felts
These cleaning felts work fine with the action cleaning tool if you use them in an action they will fit in. They will not work in a Browning X-Bolt chambered in .270WSM. Do not force the felt in the action or you risk getting them stuck. I used them on Remington 700 and Winchester Model 70 actions just fine. They do clean well when used with a gun cleaning solvent. The felts I've used have a small hole in them for the Allen head retaining screw to pass through. They measure .9250" long, so make sure they will fit in your action as they are not very pliable.
