.22 CALIBER RIMFIRE BARREL LINERS

.22 CALIBER RIMFIRE BARREL LINERS Reviews & Ratings

There are untold thousands of rimfire .22’s over the country today that need only a barrel liner to bring them back to their original shooting abilities. Some of these guns are beautiful collection pieces, others are fine hunting guns and some of them are just “loved” by their owners who want them back to their original condition. Redman 22 Barrel Liners are button rifled with ultra smooth, uniform finish and sharp, distinct rifling for superb accuracy that’s better than - or equal to - an original, new barrel. The instruction booklet gives complete, easy-to-follow details for either the old, classic method of soldering the liners in or, the more modern method of using ACRAGLAS® for the permanent bond between barrel and liner.

Barrel Liner Instruction Book details the systems used by gunsmiths Bob Schuetz, Willis Sprunger and Ralph Walker. Walker used a variable speed hand drill and ACRAGLAS to hold the liner in. Schuetz solders the liner in place. Sprunger extended a regular bit, drilled the hole in a lathe and bonded with ACRAGLAS.

WARNING: These Redman gun barrel liners are made for specific cartridges. Only use with specified cartridges listed in item description. To chamber these gun barrel liners in other calibers is dangerous and can cause serious bodily injury.

Amazing rifle savers
These are absolute rifle savers. I've installed over a dozen of these in the last few months alone as I finally tackled that pile of pitted-bore rifles, and honestly with the proper tooling (available from brownells), these are a breeze to install and saved what would've otherwise been unsafe rifles from being canabalized for parts or relegated to wall-hanger status. The liners are great quality and with proper installation produce results that are entirely satisfactory, and with other action work and lapping can be truly amazing. as with most botton-rifled barrels these have some characteristic tooling marks in the bore that can be removed with minor lapping if maximum accuracy is desired, or left as is they tend to break in pretty easily. Proper installation is key to best accuracy and a long service life. I recommend using the brownells piloted bit to drill out the old bore, and install the liner with the groove towards the breech end. both the bored barrel and the liner must be THOROUGHLY degreased. I start with scrubbing the bored barrel with a brass brush, followed by a degreaser and bore mop (dawn works okay), followed by a rinse, and a final mopping with acetone. I wipe the liner with acetone as well. I use Loctite 638 to install the liners and it works great with enough working time (620 sets up faster, and on long barrels it didn't leave me enough time). Once the bond has fully cured face off the liner and crown and chamber as usual.

Work like a charm!
I have put several in Winchester Model 290 barrels, and one in a Remington Model 12-C. The Remington was difficult, as I could not remove the barrel from the reciever without damaging either. I got it in and it works perfectly!

Save your old rusty gun
If you have an old rusty gun that you'd like to shoot again, this is the thing for you. Get the pilot drill that goes along with this liner and you're in business. Got a lathe? We don't need no stinkin' lathe. Slow and lots of cutting oil and there ya go. Get you some AcraGlas too.
