1911 VALUE LINE HAMMER & SEAR

1911 VALUE LINE HAMMER & SEAR Reviews & Ratings

Ready to install, fully finished parts give a crisp, clean trigger pull. All engagement surfaces are correctly ground for positive hammer/sear engagement. Hammer has low-mass oval cut spur that reduces lock time. Narrowed sides improve function by reducing drag. Sear primary angle is cut; just polish it and stone the relief angle for a super clean breaking trigger. SPECS: MIM cast 4340 steel, Hardened to Rc 47-52. Matte black finish.

Did the job
The sear I had in my 1911 was filed too short and the gun would sometimes either have a slam fire or it would go fully automatic which was not safe or legal. I put the sear in the gun as is without filing down the sear, making no adjustments. I tested the gun, without actually firing it yet, by locking the slide back then pressing the slide release down, letting the slide close with the tension of the recoil spring. The hammer did not follow the slide when it closed and the hammer stayed in the fully cocked position. I then went to the range for live fire experimentation. I fired 50 rounds without a slam fire or the gun going full auto on me. The gun is now safe to fire and has a 3.5 lb. trigger pull. Replacing just the sear corrected the problem.

Excellent product
Excellent product, even from the Value line. Truly a drop-in, no modification required from my part. Smooth operations with the rest of the action and frame. Remember you will reuse your old hammer pin, hammer strut and hammer strut pin. The design allows for positive thumb engagement when cocking, holding and decocking the hammer.

Cheap and easy drop-in trigger job!
This sear, in conjunction with the beaver tail and thus mandatory shortened hammer, not only makes handling my RIA M1911 A1 GI FS more comfortable, but also gave my pistol an instant trigger job. The factory trigger was actually very good. It had very little take-up, with very little over-travel. This hammer/sear combo, somehow geometrically moved my trigger-pull "rearwards", to where there is slightly more take-up, but now there is barely any noticeable over-travel. No screw needed! Also, the reset is miniscule, making for a very fast firing 1911! And all done at home easily! I had to grind my manual thumb safety :(

Truly drop-in
I used this hammer to replace the OEM spur hammer on my Colt O1991 Government Model (Series 80), as I replaced the grip safety for a beaver tail safety and needed a commander-style hammer. I had no issues installing the hammer and did not need any fitting - a true drop in. My OEM spur hammer does not have a hook half-cock, I assume its not needed in a Series 80 (equipped with a firing pin block and plunger). I assume then that this hammer with a hook half-cock notch is actually for a Series 70, but works fine in the Series 80, just dont pull the trigger when in half-cock or you will damage the hammer half-cock notch or worse, the sear. It also seems to have slightly improved the trigger pull on my gun.

Picture is misleading
Installed on my RIA 1911 took minimal effort, fit correct the first time. I recommend going to Wilson Combat and look at the picture of it there, the Brownells catalog picture is really not what the hammers finish looks like. It's better. The sides are polished silver not all around black. Excellent piece for the price, would buy again.

Lite and smooth trigger.
I use this sear with value line hammer for my colt MK IV series 80 . After installed I test with ISU target I can make small group in 25 metre (off hand).

Quality at a value price
I find these sears to be of good quality and great to "tune" to the pistol you are working on. Steel is of very good uality.

Very nice part
I added this to two Colt Series 80 pistols, one in 45 and one 38 super. I also replaced the factory grip safety with an extended Wilson drop in part that requires bobbing the hammer or a Commander style hammer. I chose this part for the function but I also like the look on the gun. No issues on the install, I used a light stone to polish the engagement surfaces, otherwise no work needed. Very pleased with the result
