Easy to install, just go slow.
This is overall a very good quality safety. Fitting was fairly easy. Just go slow and compare your OEM safety with this one as you go. A few stone/fine file strokes at a time with frequent fit checks goes a long way. Use calipers if you have them. Only issue I ran into was the back of the safety had manufacturing burrs that I didn't notice or feel before I started fitting. These really scuffed up my finish by the time I was done. I ended up using a high grit sandpaper and bluing it and the frame. Everything turned out looking very good in the end. Best of all, my gun is safe and my arthritic thumb doesn't get worn out using the safety. Remember, go slow and view videos online if you need.
Works And Feels Good
I installed my new Safety on my Colt 1911 22 Gold Cup Trophy. It is 80 % compatible with normal parts for the 1911 but I needed to fit this Safety. It didn't take much, The bottom left, where the detent is, needed to be file down a tad. I also had to fit it to get it to reliably go to Safe or Fire mode. I do like the feel and the look of my new Safety and would recommend it to anyone wanting a larger Safety.
NOT a drop-in item
Installed on a Colt stainless steel Commander. I had to reduced the size of the post that goes through the frame and grip safety considerably, reduce the diameter of the cylindrical part containing the sear egagement part to clear the frame and then as expected had to file the surface that mates to the sear. It required two hours of work but the results were fabulous. It looks fantastic, works as designed and snicks on and off smoothly with a positive detent both ways. If you are up to the fitting part of the job, it is a great item.
Nice Safety
Installed on my government model Colt, nice polished blue finish. Thumb pad is very large but gives you plenty material to recontour.
Looks good
This part definitely requires fitting for Remington 1911R1 I'm no gunsmith but I made pretty quick work of it. Once the fitting is out of the way it works well and looks good. Much better to work with than the STI piece I bought first.
Nice Product
Used in a "scratch build" of an (iffy?) Essex frame Government Model. Part is very square and pin size fit very well. Safety cam was over-sized and requires extensive fitting/reshaping. Once fit, looks and functions flawlessly with zero movement in trigger/sear.
