Not a heavy barrel
I've gotten a couple HOWA barreled actions in their heavy barrel contour and I've always been pleased. Shot well and was what I wanted to put into a chassis. I thought this 6ARC barreled action would be the same (the 20" is supposed to be 'heavy barrel'). It looks more like a sporter contour. Looked pretty pencil-ish setting into a chassis. Like throwing a hotdog down a hallway. I feel I must replace the barrel immediately for the purpose I want the action.
Got a defective one (waiting for repairs)
I bought this 6mmARC barreled action back in Jan 2024 and fought with it to get it to shoot for months. After chasing potential loads and struggling to get resized brass to chamber, I discovered brass was bulging. The Grendel/ARC family of cartridges apparently will do this if everything is slightly on the loose side of specs. I couldn't get passed starting loads so I tried factory ammo which was too hot. I pierced primers. Communications of Howa was kind of slow since they're down several gunsmiths. Currently 30 days into at least 60 days wait for them to even look at the action. Emails suggest it's going to be another 60 days. I've had good luck with Howa rifles so I'm hoping this is a unique experience.
Aside from the light burrs on the bolt face not a bad option.
22" 6mm ARC barreled action shipped quickly. Once put in a Stocky's Carbon fiber stock I hoped to be off to the races. Accuracy potential seems favorable. After sending roughly 80 rounds down range the brass build up on the face suggested the bolt face was in need of attention. Yes light burrs were found on the face in the extractor location. Would like to completely disassemble the bolt to properly debur & polish the face of this bolt. Reached out to Howa for their thoughts on a remedy, with a primary intention of preventing this for future buyers. I'm hoping for a timely reply & remedy for the bolt face concerns. Burrs on the bolt face is the big hitter keeping this purchase from 5 stars for this buyer.
