COATED RODS

COATED RODS Reviews & Ratings

The tough nylon coating on these rods absolutely won’t scratch the delicate rifling of the finest match barrel and won’t peel off like many vinyl coatings do. Smooth turning, ball bearing handle. Supplied with Adapter for standard 8-32 male thread brushes and accessories (Except .17 and 20 caliber rods; they are 5-40 female). Plus, an extra-long Dewey Jag that takes a patch either wrapped-around, or over-the-end, and fits directly onto the rod’s male thread.

17C and 20C series rods do not include brush adapter. Use of breech or muzzle bore guide is recommended.

SPECS: Handles are 1-1/8" (2.9cm) dia. x 2-7/8" (7.3cm) long. The number following the dash in the model number represents the rod length in inches, 1"=2.5cm. 17C rods fit .17 caliber 20C rods fit .20 cal-.22RF. 22C rods fit .22-.26 caliber 30C rods fit .27 caliber and up. 38C-12 fits .27 caliber and up handguns. Top Notch
The Dewey rods are of excellent quality. The bearings in the handle are very smooth and allow it to spin in the rifling as you push the jag or brush through no matter how much force you are applying to it. The coating is very good too. Each rod comes with a jag and an adapter for standard threaded brushes or you can buy the Dewey threaded brushes here from Brownells which is what I would suggest as they are better than the brushes you usually find for sale on the shelves in other stores. I own two of these and would not hesitate to buy another.

Not as pictured
I've been using Dewey rods for a long time and have been happy with them. The only reason I give it 4 stars is that the specs doesn't say anything about the end of the rod or the thread size, the picture shows it as a female end while its actually a 12-28 male end.

Works Great
Works great for cleaning Rock River LAR-15s

Too tight for 7mm Mag
The rod is very nice but the jag is way too tight for a 7mm Mag. I would recommend buying the smaller caliber jag for the 7mm Mag. Be nice if they offered this thicker rod with the smaller jag.

Dewey has a strange product line in .22
I bought this cleaning rod for my Ruger MK III and it works fine. I use the VFG felt pad system, and I believe it is better for the barrel than standard tools (bronze brushes, etc.). So, I have this rod and a VFG "adapter/jag" that goes with it. Now comes along my father's Winchester Model 62A, also a .22 caliber weapon. So, I go to buy a 36" Dewey cleaning rod, figuring I'd use the same VFG adapter, but the .22 caliber Dewey rod is too big for a .22 caliber rimfire rifle (the Dewey website states this). So now I have to buy a different brand of rod or a .17 caliber Dewey rod. Either way, if I'm going to use VFG in my rifle, I have to buy a new adapter for it since the VFG adapter that fits the Dewey will not fit the .17 caliber Dewey rod or any other brand of rod. So I bought a Bore Tech rod and VFG adapter for that, but if I'd have known, I would have bought that rod in the first place. So, though the Dewey rod is constructed well, I am grading the rod low because of the compatibility issue. Why would Dewey make a .22 caliber cleaning rod incompatible with .22 caliber weapons? Very frustrating.
