Best 1911 9mm magazine for the money
Ordered a bunch of the 9mm mags as soon as they became available - was confident they would work based on my experience with Brownell's .45 magazines. Very happy with the quality, workmanship and function of these magazines. By far the best 9mm 1911 magazine for the money that I've seen. They have fed everything I've put through them in the STI Lawman. Great magazines.
quality magazines
Immediately ordered these when I saw them - I've had great service from Brownell's .45 magazine. The 9mm magazines are very high quality and they function perfectly in my STI Lawman 4.0. Performance every bit as good as other magazines costing much more. If you're running a 1911 in 9mm, get some of these magazines - you'll be glad you did!
Doesn't drop free
Feeds fine but doesn't drop free from my Springfield Armory 1911A1. Black coating might be the problem.
Great replacement for dan wesson
Rebranded metalforum magazine. Same factory magazine that came with new TCP.
Good product
I recently picked up a RIA 1911 in 9mm that comes with 1 magazine. 1st time out I could not get any thing to run. If I loaded the 10 rnd mag to 5 rounds it was great. Loading it over 5 rounds made it a single shot until down to only 5 left. Ordered set of 3 Brownells mags, and have only had one failure out of about 100 rounds. That was on the first load and have had no problems with them sense.
Worth the money
Nothing is perfect but a good value. Feed perfect. but stiff in magwell. Had to polish leading edge of mag catch to achieve mag insertion. They don't want to drop free but this pistol has a too stiff mag release spring so that's an issue too. I'll adjust mag release tension and maybe add a paddle and these will be good as any others. The most important thing is they feed well which they do. I can deal with the other issued for mags that are going to be dropped on the ground and abused. Mag catch engagement is very solid and properly positioned. These are being used in a RIA 1911 and these pistols need some smoothing out anyways..
basepad removal issue fixed
My previous review (4/2016) stated the magazines worked well except for extreme difficulty removing the basepads. On those first 3 magazines, I solved that issue by filing (extending) the front of the slots the pad slides into. I just purchased 3 more of these magazines, and the latest ones all are fine (basepad comes off easily) with no such modification necessary. Due to that change (for the better!) I change my rating from 2-star/NO to 4-star/YES. As stated in my first review, in my gun (Dan Wesson PM-9), all 6 magazines work very well: They all eject easily (no hang-ups as reported by some other reviewers), they lock easily into the gun when fully loaded and the slide closed, and lock the slide back when empty. It seems 1911 9mms (at least mine) are quite 'picky' about ammo types; mine works best with long OAL loads (near the maximum OAL that will fit in the magazine); short ones tend to nosedive (no matter what brand magazine I use) on occasion. Perhaps the most reliable magazine I've found for my gun are the Metalform-Springfield/Leatham "front spaced" ones (which Brownell's sells), but those only hold 9 rounds vs. the 10 these hold. I've used these magazines in USPSA matches with no problems: I would say they work as well as the Tripp Cobramags (also 10 rounds) I have, and much better than either generation Wilson ETM 10-round mags I also have. The only 'unknown' here is how long they last, but I have not had any issues (such as feed lip spread) so far.
Excellent
Purchased a new American Classic Gov't II, it only comes with 1 x 9 round mag. I ordered the 3 pack holds 10 rounds each, works great. The extra round makes the mag extend about 1/4" below frame, but feel comfortable in my hands & the black blends in with the frame too. Better than the silver mag it came with. No feed issues.
Great Value
Brownells 9mm 1911 magazines are very well constructed and function flawlessly in Colt Combat Commanders, Kimber Aegis and SIG Ultra 9mm 1911 style pistols. They rival Wilson Combat in many ways. The only drawback with Brownells' are the rough spots from the stamp cuts on the magazine lips. These rough edges are easily trimmed or wear down, but have not caused any malfunctions even when left unattended. These are great mags and for the price, an excellent value.
Good magazines But no replacement spring
Good magazines worked fine when new. Getting old with lots of use. Went to order replacement mag springs, Brownells does not have replacement springs for these. eeeekk... I would recommend other than the spring issue, not being able to get replacement springs is an issue for some of us, might not be for others. So if you don't think you will need springs they are fine, if you might need springs you might want to look at a different mag. If it was not for the springs I would give 5 stars. I have eight of these and now need to figure out what to do other than to just start trying various .45 mag springs. 8 round 45 spring maybe......
