One Size Doesn't Fit All
Well built, solid punch to uninstall and install front sight on my Shield Plus. Bottom of the punch was too wide for the Shield's dovetail so ran the bottom against a flat file until it fit about a third of the way into the Shield's dovetail which is all you need to get a sight centered. Thus, subtracting 1 star for having to modify the punch to my Shield's dovetail size, but understand that not all pistols are made the same. Others need to understand this also and learn how to Macgyver it.
Well made product
No problem installing night sights on an S&W shield. Worked great. Did not mar sights. Both punches held up very well.
The smaller one is handy
To echo a previous reviewer, I don't know how functional the larger one is. Maybe there are some rifle sights with that big of a dovetail. The smaller one worked well to install my recent pistol sights purchase. If you need a narrower punch, flip it to the shorter side of the triangle. It's not equilateral.
Good tool
bought this to replace the front sight on my M&P Shield. had to file down the small punch by about .030 in order for the dovetail to fit in the sight slot. worked great after the punch was filed down.
Did not properly fit my S&W Shield Plus
Material is fine but did not fit my rear sight well on my S&W Shield Plus Carry. Also the edge of the punch was chewed up from striking against the sight.
Too wide
This tool does not work on all pistols. I was hoping this would work on my S&W MP EZ9, but it's way to wide. I haven't tried this tool on my other pistols, but it will not work on MP EZ9.
NICE BUT
VERY NICE PUNCH SET HOWEVER IT DID NOT FIT THE S&W SIGHT DOVETAIL. I HAD TO MILL IT DOWN TO MAKE IT FIT. BOTH FRONT AND REAR.
TO BIG
Just got my dovetail sight punches, They are to big for the dovetails on my M&P Shield. I'll have to file them down so they will fit. It seems like they would make them so that they would fit?
About Half
I have no idea what I will use the large one for. I have a sight pusher, but for easy stuff I thought these could save some time. The first gun I needed the small one for was a Springfield XDm40. The front sight on this gun was too narrow for my sight pusher. Well, it was too small for even the small punch. And the punch was too fragile. I sanded off enough material so that it would enter the dovetail, and it quickly broke. I've done two other handguns since the Springfield, (diff. brands) and none had large enough dovetails to use the large punch.
Great!
They work so much better than a round punch. They distribute they impact across a wider area of the gun sight and remove or install them with ease. Fantastic tool!
