Definitely works better than the ball expander on my RCBS die. You have to purchase part #749-008-843MB; 35 - 50 Caliber Expander Die Body (7/8"-14) for this mandrel.

Simple, accurate
Used to correct case mouth, expand them to a consistent size for reloading match .308Win ammo. Does the job as you'd expect. I doubt it'll ever even show signs of wear - carbide vs. brass; no contest.
Carbide Expander Mandrels
I've used the older style steel mandrel for years and they work, but require lubing of the case neck. The carbide mandrel does away with that and works without lube and is effortless in it's use. The downside is the price...but it's worth it, IMHO. Wes
New expander mandrel and die saves brass
I shoot about 4000 rounds each year so I reload a lot. Re-sizing brass stretches the brass which is a very BAD thing. You might ask why do I re-size each time? Well, I have multiple rifles in the same caliber with slightly different chambers, thus requiring FL sizing each time. The single biggest factor that causes stretching is pulling the neck expander out of the case at the end of the sizing stroke. With this new expander die and mandrel, the stretching nearly stops completely. Simply remove the expander button from the sizing die. Use the expander die right after the sizing die. The expander die does the expanding on the down stroke thus causing much less stretching of the brass. I tried this on 50 cases and got on the phone and ordered 3 more mandrels in different calibers. I use a Dillon 650XL reloader but I still load in 4 steps. 1st - De-prime, 2nd - clean, 3rd - prime size and expand the neck, 4th - add powder bullet and crimp the neck. The results are very uniform loads and NO scratches in my sizer die from dirty cases.

This mandrel is smooth and easy to use. I did find lubing the inside of the case necks necessary, but this was expected. This system is definitely an improvement over the expander ball in your full length die. The neck tension all all brass sized with this mandrel had extremely consistent bullet seating force.
Best choice versus non carbide
Use to uniform inside neck diameter post full length resizing. Gives consistent neck tension. Also case neck run-out. In use there is no drag on necks compared to traditional steel.

I've been using this mandrel in my 6.5 Creedmoor reloading process since they came out. Coupled with my Redding sizer and Sinclair Micro Adjust seater die my ammo is coming out very concentric. I use these just prior to seating primers. I dip the necks in Imperial Dry lube and run the brass over the expander, primer, powder and seat my bullets. I've had zero issues with runout or galling using this method. Upgraded from the standard steel mandrels and will be changing all my other mandrels over to carbide.
