ATHLON OPTICS - CRONUS BTR GEN2 4.5-29X56MM FFP ILLUMINATED RIFLE SCOPE

Brownells is top notch. The scope still needs to be mounted so I can test tracking. The scope is made in same Japanese factory “Low Japan” as many high end scope companies. Snappy crisp turrets, crystal clear edge to edge glass, and 0-11 brightness illumination. At higher setting the illumination is definitely day light bright. I will be mounting on Area 419 cantilever mount to eliminate variables that can lead to possible inaccuracy. If I feel motivated I will post accuracy at range with variables (Rifle used/barrel profile, load data, distances, conditions). 5 stars for Brownells and 4 stars for Athlon because I have not mounted and taken to range yet. It seems like a 5 star scope though. Make sure you buy a battery. I failed to read that it does not come with scope. Thankfully I had an extra CR2032 battery for my calipers. The included pics are crude, but give you an idea of what you get. One handing the iPhone and taking a pic of illuminated reticle at, about 9 power and I think 9 illumination, was supper difficult. The phone could not focus. The phone does not due justice to how crisp the reticle is on and off illumination.

Brownells had a good price on these so i couldn't pass it up. This is my 2nd Cronus and they're very solid scopes. Great glass, great turrets and a lifetime warranty. I passed on a Vortex Razor Gen 3 for another Cronus. I haven't owned a Razor but i can't see spending an extra $700-$1000 for a scope that may be marginally better.

The turret is solid with no play and very tactile/ audible clicks. Tracked well on a 300wm at 100 and 300 yards. The glass wasn't as clear as I expected from other reviews- Was difficult to see POI on Birchwood casey splater target with high visibility green background at 300 yards which I was disappointed in. A Vortex Viper PST 2 5x25 seemed to be better glass on the day where I could clearly see the Points of Impact that I wasn't clearly seeing with the Athlon. The Viper is half the cost of the Athlon and also comes with a basic lense cover. The Athlon Did not come with any lense covers whatsoever, nor sun shade. With the addition cost of tenebrex covers and the shade the cost is only a couple hundred bucks less than a Trijicon Tenmile- which in my case- The tenmile I have has far clearer glass- came complete with protective covers, a cleaning brush, sun shade and the option for green illuminated reticle. The only thing the Athlon does better than the tenmile seems to be the turrets . Its a good looking scope. If the glass lived up to the reviews I'd give it five stars- but it wasn't better than the Vortex Viper- which is disappointing.
