Well worth the money compared to others
I bought one of these along with 5 of the SR Mauser stocks. I was not disappointed to say the least. GOOD quality walnut, nicely inlet , plenty of wood to work with. Grain was good and stock is strong. I love the price. Other companies charge over $125 for an inferior stock. Brownells takes good care of us professional gun smiths and gun cranks. Try it and you will like it.

Beautiful Stock
I am really impressed with this piece of wood. I'm working away at making some minor adjustments to make it fit my Mauser 98...really solid and nice stock, very pleased for the price!

Decent inletted stock at a reasonable
Initially I was disappointed with the fit as there were gaps in the bottom metal inletting at the ends. The top metal fitted very well with a little tweaking of the barrel channel. I soon discovered that the action was not that of the German 98 it was a Czech or Turkish mauser; I couldn't tell for sure as the roll markings were difficult to read. I bought another unfinished version for a potential next build..

Good for the money, but not great
I have just finished installing this on a spainish mauser 98 action with a brownells 6.5x55 barrel and the fit was realitivley good, but there is a slight gap in front of the chamber area. That is my only gripe about the stock (everything else is good and I will buy this again as the gap can be closed with acra glass when I bed the rifle). Also, the LOP is rather short, but that will not be an issue when I attach a butt pad. Also, the pistol grip could be a bit more vertical or a bit straighter (its in a bad shape for me, but YMMV). I shall buy it again for my next mauser and am satisfied with it thus far. I would call it an 8 out of 10 as it will need a bit of work to make it pretty, but it is very good for a hunting rifle and great for a knockabout rifle. However, it does balance exceptionally well with the sporter contour barrel and a simple receiver sight and front post (also purchased from brownells). I would recommend this for a BUDGET mauser, not one a high end one.

Good value for the price - I'd buy again
As the ad says, plain Walnut with little figure. I purchased the stock for a Husqvarna M98 that I was refinishing. It came nicely sanded however I did put a lot of finish work into it (I'm fussy like that). I don't remember if it was mentioned anywhere but there was no bolt cut out or relief for the bolt stop or loading gate so these had to be cut in which suited me fine as it allowed me to do the work myself and ensure proper placement. There was also minor fitting that had to be done to ensure the rifle went in the stock properly, but this too was minor and no inconvenience. Stock also had to be altered to fit the aftermarket trigger (Bold) which is substantially different from the factory military-style trigger. In the end, I would not hesitate recommending this stock to someone else who was looking for a winter project to keep themselves out of mischief. Recommended tools to complete the installation are: assorted chisels/scrapers, sanding blocks and sand paper (I went to 600 grit - YMMV), files and rasp, epoxy for bedding. I recommend an oil finish rather than a lacquer but that is personal preference. I also installed a pin through the wrist as well as double crossbolts (rifle is a 9.3x62 and I didn't want any stock cracking issues).
